Bates Get Their Greens

Meant to share this video with you early this morning, but time got away from us...

This week on Bringing Up Bates, Gil and Kelly Bates take the kids to Austin's Steak and Homestyle Buffet for an all-you-can-eat smorgasbord. Everyone enjoys the experience, but the only problem is that Kelly is unable to look over each child's shoulder as they choose their food.

"When my mom says, 'Make sure everybody gets some greens'...the kids interpret that very loosely," says Nathan Bates.

"Three or four came back with all green gummy bears on their ice cream," adds Gil Bates.

Bringing Up Bates "Bates Dish It Out," airs Thursday at 9pm ET/8pm CT on UP.

    1. They have said on a few occasions that she is a family friend who helps out at their house. I know they have a group of young ladies who come to their home and help the kids with school as well.

  5. She is always in the background - maybe a sitter or teacher for the younger children? Just a guess.

  6. We credit Gil as being a wonderful role model. The "Dishes Out" episode was a disappointment to us in that the family focused on glutinous behavior, and Kelly Jo introduced a dinner conversation about sickness while her children were in the midst of eating their meal. Shouldn't they be teaching their children good manners by example. The youngest boy even repeated the story, but in a hushed voice, as if his conscience knew better. Kelly Jo also gossiped to Lawson about how badly her daughters drove for the first time. To his credit, Lawson did try to play it down and not betray his sisters. We don't relish giving negative comments, but believe a constructive critique may help them on future episodes.

    1. You are joking right? Now there's something wrong with eating at a buffet! Also joking with your family is not gossiping. Not even close to it.
