'Bobby, Bobby, Bobby'

The 50th episode of Bringing Up Bates is sure to be a memorable one! The Bates family travels down to Florida to celebrate Allie Jane Webster's first birthday and meet Bobby Smith's family.

For those who haven't heard, Bobby is Tori's boyfriend, although the two have not yet announced an official courtship.

Scroll down to watch the promo video for Thursday's new epsiode of Bringing Up Bates, which airs Thursday at 9pm ET/8pm CT on UP.

  1. Allie looks precious! And poor Tori, haha. Moms sure know how to embarrass their kids!

  2. What's the difference between being "boyfriend and girlfriend" and "officially courting"? Thank you in advance for answering. :)

    1. To the Bates boyfriend and girlfriend is two people that are interested in each other and interested in a possible courtship. Courtship is described by Kelly Jo as "going steady" though some of the bates kids have had different rules for courting they usually try to keep as little physical contact as they can. Nathan and Asheley hugged and held hands while courting. Michael and brandon hugged. Erin and Chad and John and Alyssa I'm not as sure about. I know Zach and Whitney said they did kiss before marriage (which the Bates try to avoid) but it didnt seem like their parents were to upset.

  3. I don't get this. The Bates keep saying "we don't date, we court" yet they call each other girlfriend and boyfriend before they actually begin courting? Isn't that dating? It seems like they are admitting that they like each other and are pursuing a relationship even though they aren't ready to discuss working towards marriage yet. Otherwise why wouldn't they just say they are courting already?

    1. They really should NOT call themselves "boyfriend/girlfriend" at this point. This is very confusing to many who do not understand the courtship philosophy. To be honest though, the way they are responding to each other and appear to be very emotionally attached already, it would make more sense if they were already courting. To many people, this does not make any sense. If you are just getting to know each other better before making a definite decision, then we should not be making a BIG deal about their "relationship" as it shouldn't be nothing more than good friends since they are not officially courting.

    2. I'm right there with you.
I don't think we saw this with Zach's first girlfriend ( I don't know about Whitney) or Erin,Josh, Jill, Jessa... but now we're seeing it with Jinger too.

  4. Kelly said courtship to them is like going steady...it's more serious than just a boyfriend. I think they consider dating to be having a boyfriend/girlfriend and getting to know each other.

Kelly Bates has stated that over the years they have come to the idea of "dating with a purpose" for their children's ideal marital path. Courtship is a phase in that idea just before engagement. The whole idea is if you have reasonable stages of a relationship and are focusing on God's direction then you will find the one that He has chosen for you. Without the safe guards you have more chances to share experiences with someone that God has not meant for you but for another. I also think that courtship is a time that is purposed for serious consideration of whether you think you are meant for marriage. "Getting to know each other" is probably where Bobby and Tori are in this clip since her family is just meeting him.
