  6. With 19 kids, I'd just like to know who did the cooking? Tori looked very awkward with food prep in Erin's kitchen. I know Erin didn't cook until she was married... Someone had to be feeding the kids, but who? I'd think that everyone in such a large family would be required to pitch-in during meal time.

    1. Yes, including the males in the family. Knowing how to cook is essential. If you can read, you can cook.

    2. When all the kids lived at home, Kelly, Michaella and Alyssa did all the cooking. Kelly and Gil usually let the kids choose what chores they liked. Michaella and Alyssa used to really like cooking so they always volunteered for that.

    3. My understanding was that Alyssa and Michael were the main cooks until they married and then others filled in when there was a need. There was an early episode where the family made a chicken and potato meal with the older girls, including Whitney, helping peel potatoes and prep other things. They also said that Tori took over cooking to help Kelly Jo. It may be that the girls don't feel like good cooks because they were preparing foods that could easily feed a large number of people versus preparing meals for two. It may be that they can make food, but don't feel it's very good. Jessa Seewald also felt like she was bad cook when starting out and Jill Dillard had to get used to preparing smaller meals.

    4. I’ve always wondered about that also! They should be highly skilled chefs by the time they get married in that family! Lol. We were only a family of four-my parents and my sis and I-and my mom made me make meals in my teens so I would know about some cooking when I got married. Was so grateful about that later when I got married at age 20-I knew how to feed my man- whoohoo

  8. Did Tori earn a BS/BA or an MS/MA? I am really curious since she was wearing a "hood" that is presented to students in a "hooding" ceremony upon completion of a graduate degree. Any idea?

    1. I'm pretty sure Tori did not get a master's degree. I think it's more common to do the hoods in the education world (as in, she got an education degree). My husband wore a hood when processing as a faculty member at high school graduations even before he got his master's.

    2. I was given a hood for my bachelors. She has a BA

  9. I think of cooking as a hobby. Either you like to, or you don't. I personally LOVE to cook healthy, from scratch meals for my family. I think that everyone should learn to cook when they are at a decent age whether they like to cook or not, because eventually they will NEED to be able to prepare a meal when they are married. I know that in some large families, each person does what they are good at, which I guess makes them really good at that one thing. My mom is an excellent cook and made sure to include her 11 kids in the kitchen, and my dad also liked to cook as well. Now each of their children thoroughly enjoy cooking, girl's and boys. I consider cooking as a way to show others that I love them and care about them. Not a judgement on Tori, just think it's a good idea to know how to work with food before your married☺

    1. Josie is working at a salon already, and Tori is planning on teaching at a Christian school run by the church that hired Bobby to be a youth pastor. It's possible this will be delayed by her pregnancy, but she even broke the baby news to her parents by saying she'd need a babysitter, so I do think she plans on "using" her degree.

I'm not sure Trace is going to "use" his certificate as there is a post on this site with "web clip" where he talks about possibly becoming an LEO like Zach, which has nothing to do with his certification in "Christian life" , but going by what the Bates said, seems the experience of going to college and meeting new people has made him more outgoing and assertive, so even he doesn't "use" his certification, hopefully the experience will help him in the long run.

    1. The duggar girls are not prisoners. When they become adults they can decide for themselves. The parents have never said they discouraged college. Some people choose to not to go to college. It's not that uncommon. The duggars are wonderful christians.

  12. Does anyone know what they graduated in ? Or does that college only offer Bible Studies ?
