Leopard Spots for Kelly Jo

Josie Balka and Katie Bates

Josie Balka: "My mom loves having her hair done and makeup done by other people."

Callie Bates: "[Mom's] normal outfit is usually a button-up shirt and a jean skirt."

Addee Bates: "And it always has a vest with it."

Tomorrow on Bringing Up Bates, Kelly is going on an anniversary date with Gil, and her daughters are eager to giver her a new look. After doing her hair and makeup, they present her with a few dress options from the boutique. One is an especially bold look for the mom of 19. Will she say nay or yay? Video below.

We also want to give our readers a heads up about a sweepstakes that UPtv is running this week. Brandon Keilen's book, The Quest of Quinton: The Mystery of the Golden Scroll, will be featured on this week's show. Visit the network's website to enter to win an autographed copy.

  1. I love this sneak peek!!! Lots of Moms have an everyday look; me included!!! It’s fun when someone else says “try this”!!! I hope Kelly likes the leopard spotted dress (I looked on the Sister’s Boutique for one in my size; but didn’t see one🤷‍♀️!)!!!

  2. Some of the older daughters are now sporting the same hair color and style. It’s become very hard to tell them apart.

  3. As a senior citizen, I have found it to be increasingly difficult to find attractive clothing that doesn’t make me look like I’m ready for a nursing home. I don’t care for dresses or skirts, so it limits my choices. I finally found some Gap skinny jeans that feel and look good on this old gal!

  6. I laughed so hard through the make up portion of the show, especially the eye lash part!

  7. I watched this episode and I noticed in the make up box they showed, there was a bottle of Estee Lauder Double Wear Liquid Foundation. Wow, that makeup is not cheap. I know, I use it myself. I don't go around presenting myself as a mostly poor, FRUGAL large family of 21 and make my own soap because of it. This family presented themselves as such when they first came on as the United Bates of America. They lived in that house before the additions and renovations. It was falling down around them. I specifically remember a singing episode of them gathered in the living room and it was quite depressing to look at. Homemade frocks, and certainly NO Estee Lauder makeup. They need to address these flamboyant changes that we see on the show and quit shoving it under the rug.

    1. Very legitimate questions. As the girls get older, several have gone for the over the top glam look, so far from their humble beginnings. I think it's the stardom that changed them and it hasn't been a good thing.

    2. That's silly. We know they aren't doing this show for free.

    3. I'm sure UP is paying them well and if they can afford to splurge (which they have a right to do) then they should go for it. Plus there is such a thing as a gift you know.

    4. So as they get older and move on into their lives they're supposed to stay the same? Jealousy is an ugly emotion people. They don't need your permission to do anything. Give us all a break already.

  8. @1:34... lets not forget that Josie’s new job includes providing professional make up applications for those in wedding parties. It’s no wonder she has expensive make up in her box of cosmetics. It shows she knows what she is doing for such important events in life. It wasn’t flamboyant, but rather smart and cost effective if she wants to continue in her chosen profession.

  9. I also noticed the obvious plus for Josie's business, Effortless Beauty or something like that. It was another built in infomercial like the Sensodyne toothpaste, only for Josie's business...I noticed someone wearing a Paine Construction t-shirt not too long ago either. Just stop it, it's tacky to do things like this. We all know that Kelli absolutely knew about this business venture for Josie and her friend. No one in this family makes a move without the whole clan knowing everything beforehand. Kelli acted like she just heard it.

    1. They all have things they're working on and since some of the boys work for Chad they wear the shirt like a uniform. If they didn't show what they're up to you'd be complaining and asking how they make their money. It's not our business and some of you need to read your bible again to remember what being a christian means. Don't forget the part about judging others. People behaving like some on here is the reason I've turned my back on church. You say whatever you want as long as on Sunday you'll be forgiven. You're supposed to be a God gearing christian every day of the week. Shame on you seriously.

    2. 8:32, where did this attack on Christians come from? 2:25 never mentioned her spiritual beliefs.

  10. You all need to stop attacking this family! How would you each like it to have someone treat you this way? Grow up and back off of this family they are doing nothing wrong and it really makes me stick to know anyone would talk this way about another person(s).
