Happy Mother's Day 2020

Happy Mother's Day to all the mamas out there, including all the Bates mamas! For an early celebration yesterday, Josie and Kelton Balka put Willow in the baby carrier and hiked Mt. LeConte in nearby Gatlinburg.

  1. A baby should be wearing a hat while hiking.

    1. What is the difference between that and the wrap?

    2. Yep, her head is covered . . . check!

    3. A regular hat, with a visor, to protect her eyes from sun damage.

    4. I don't get the part about her eyes. A baby instinctively will close her eyes if the sun is too bright.

    5. Your not going to get sun damage from the sun. That's just and old wise tail to get people talking.

    6. My dermatologist would be as shocked as I to hear that the sun does no damage. I was one of those girls who worshiped the sun when I was younger. I have had at least 6 precancerous growths removed because of damage from the sun.

    7. 12:27- No, it is not an old wives’ tale. Excessive sun exposure damages skin and can lead to skin cancers.

    8. Did it ever occur to anyone that maybe the baby carrier she had her daughter in had a sun shade? Goodness people!! So stinking judgemental....stop making assumptions when you don't know!

  5. I remember the days of strapping my baby in either a carrier or baby backpack and going on easy hikes. Now that I'm way older, I don't have the energy anymore.☹

  6. What is the deal with the fabric thing on Willow's head? I don't see the need to dress your kid like that, especially since it is hot outside!

    1. Haha, they can't win. She should be wearing a hat, she shouldn't be wearing anything on her head. How about we let the parents make their own decisions?

    2. You do realize that there was a cold front that brought cold weather to that region? Just because you don't like the head dress doesn't mean it wrong.

    3. I was thinking the same thing. It looks so uncomfortable!

    4. If my child didn't have much hair, I certainly would put a wrap/hat/cap on his/her tender head to avoid sunburn.

    5. They're covering her head to protect from the sun.

  7. Beautiful couple and adorable baby...so don't start hating on her hat. (Between the Duggar blog and Bates blog, I have never heard so many people hate on hats and bows!) Judgemental and rude words serve no good purpose except to hurt others.

  10. That head wrap serves no protection from the sun. It holds the heat in her body which isn't what you want to do when it's warm outside. A 'baby hat' with a brim all the way around would not only protect the top of Willow's head from the sun but it would also provide shade on the back of her neck and keep the sun off her face and out of her eyes. Not good judgment showed here with that choice of head gear.

    1. It's not true that it provides no protection from the sun. Her scalp is completely covered.

    2. So what? THEY are the parents and THEY decide what is best for her! It's not your job here on earth to judge now is it? THEY have done nothing wrong.

  12. I love the headwrap. I think it is adorable. she just needs a pair of baby sunglasses

  13. The baby is squinting and the parents have sunglasses! Put a hat on that baby, a hat with a brim, so her eyes are protected too.

    1. What is your problem? Is that your child? No it isn't so mind your own business they are free to parent however they like.

  14. Question, do some of you just come here to rag on others so you feel better when you see your reflection. Worry about your own family and back off the bates already.

    1. @9:32 I was just reading about that in my Bible recently in the Sermon on the Mount. Sadly there ARE some who come here or the Duggars or just about any site to leave mean comments because they probably have very sad home lives.
