Tori's Peculiar Gift From Gil

A new episode of Bringing Up Bates is coming your way in just a few hours. With the wedding approaching quickly, Gil Bates takes Tori Bates on a daddy-daughter date so the two of them can spend some one-on-one time together.

If you know Gil, you can probably guess that there will be some tears shed as this dad prepares to give his daughter away.

Gil also presents Tori with a peculiar gift. Find out the meaning behind this little tree when the show airs tonight at 9pm ET/8pm CT on UP. I'll post a written recap to my blog immediately after the premiere.

Also on tonight's episode will be Tori and Bobby's wedding shower and Kaci Lynn Bates' first haircut.

  1. I'm sorry, but I am not a fan of this mommy/daddy stuff when you're any older than 10. My kids all switched over to mom and dad long before they were teenagers. My niece who is 5'11" tall still wants to call my sister mommy at almost 15 and my sister says it's embarrassing! Father/Daughter date sounds more appropriate for a woman who is getting married for sure. Would they say a Mommy/Son date for a son who is getting married?

    1. The blog calls it a daddy-daughter date not the Bates family. Tori called Gil dad throughout the day. It was just nice they spent time together.

I think it's all about personal preference. Kendra Caldwell Duggar called her father daddy on her wedding day. The Duggar kids also call Jim Bob daddy well into their teens though the older girls started calling him pops. What kids call their parents is between family members - it certainly doesn't affect anyone outside of their family circle.

    2. I called my mother Mama and my father was Daddy even when I was an adult. I would love for them both to still be alive so I call them that again.

    3. Kids should call their parents whatever is agreed upon in that family. It is their choice and doesn't need anyone else's approval. It is also common to use "mama," "daddy," and "mommy" in different parts of the U.S.

    4. If my parents were still alive, I would call them Moma and Daddy as I always did, and I am 57. My oldest son, who is in the AF stationed in Turkey, calls me Mommy when he first sees me when he's home on leave then goes back to calling me Mom. I wouldn't trade it for anything.

  6. Tori I love the father daughter relationship. I knew my dad loved me and showed it but not like this. Today he is gone to heaven and I cherish the fact that I knew he loved me very much. Cherish that fact everyday Tori. God bless you
