We know you all enjoy seeing photos of the courting couples. We shared a new snapshot of Josie Bates and Kelton Balka last Sunday, and now we have one of Carlin Bates and Evan Stewart. As many of you know, Kelton is a plumber and works with his uncle in Knoxville. But what about Evan?
At 22 years old, Evan is currently living north of Nashville and going to school to be an electrician. Now, when a Bates couple embarks on a fixer upper project (which Zach and Whitney Bates recently did), they will have access to both a plumber and an electrician!

Great looking couple. I’m sure there will be comments about how short Carlin’s dress is, but I think she looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI personally do feel it's immodest especially when they are trying to keep pure and keep temptations in check. When there's choices made like that it's making it hard on him to not be tempted. Especially when she's sitting and her skirt rides up even more. I'm am actually surprised she can wear something like that in Gil's house.
DeleteI think the dress looks shorter than it really is, at least on the left side, due to the way Carlin is holding up her arm. If you look at her right leg the dress actually hits just above the knee.
DeleteNow that still wouldn't meet Michelle Duggar's modesty standards, but while the Bates have similar beliefs, they're not quite as strict; they also allow for holding hands before engagement, as we also see in this photo.

DeleteIf there's nothing tempting about it 11:06, please tell why a person can't wear a dress or skirt with a lower hemline? There's nothing tempting with a mid leg hemline either...so what's the point of wearing something above the knee? the point is: girls want to wear mini skirts or put their hemlines above their knees to attract attention, show off their legs, and tempt a man...it's called immodesty.

DeleteIndeed not even 100 years ago a woman even showing men a glimpse of her stockings under a skirt was considered scandalous and immodest. I wonder what people back then would say about a woman daring to show bare legs under a mid calf skirt.
This is not to say modesty isn't important. Just that the definition of "what is modest" it is not black and white.
And if you really think ALL girls who show their knees do so "to tempt a man", then you are including Carlin in that too. That's a rather serious accusation.

Thanks for the update! I do respect the Bates and their in-laws (and soon to be in-laws) for showing their fans the virtue of working for one's keep. And prudent, too. I'm sure they realize they can't depend on the TV money forever.

ReplyDeleteFor all the naysayers, if you saw any other young couple on this planet dressed like these two, you would not be thinking Carlin is dressed immodestly. On the contrary! They are refreshingly modern, classy and modest. If knees get you riled up I think "you" may be the one with a heart issue.
