Gil's Lobster Impersonation

Gil and Kelly Bates lobster

"...This guy and girl come walking in with a lobster that they just caught. I mean, a live, moving shaking, pinching lobster."
-Gil Bates

Have you ever tried lobster? While in Maine, Gil, Kelly, Carlin, and Evan visit an iconic lobster restaurant called Portland Lobster Co. Gil's lobster impersonation is pretty entertaining, as is Carlin's reaction to the live lobsters. Check out this video preview of Thursday's new episode of Bringing Up Bates.

  1. So funny! I love lobster, but I'm still freaked out by the sight of a live lobster, lol!!!! Carlin's reaction is totally understandable!

  4. I live on the east coast of Canada. It is common for kids to play with live lobsters before they get cooked. When I was a kid only the big ones had bands if you bought them off the boats - hard to believe our parents let us do that. We used to drive them around in Barbie cars.

  5. I used to work at Red Lobster, and it was always fun to go get the lobster out of the tank and go by the table on the way to the kitchen and have the customer "approve" that lobster. I love lobster. It is so yummy.

  6. Lobster is the best! It's too expensive to to get all the time, so we just reward ourselves with a home cooked lobster dinner on new year's eve,for making it through another rough year.

We’re fortunate enough to live in Oban Scotland with some of the best shellfish. Love Lobster Thermidor <3

  8. How can you travel to New England and not be willing to take a bite of lobster? Has Carlin never shopped in a supermarket? I live in the heartland and the stores all carry live lobster in the seafood department. What exactly do those girls do all day long, every day back in Tennessee?

    1. Anon @12:58 I agree. IMO it is sad that with all their travels, they still seem so unwilling to even try new foods. I think the same thing happened with Bobby and his parents took them to a tapas restaurant after his proposal to Tori. How can Carlin have reached the age of 20+ and never seen a lobster? As you say...even in local grocery stores.

    2. 12:58, I'm sure they live full lives even without lobster.

    3. Ummm, I've lived in half a dozen states in different parts of the country since adulthood and have very rarely seen lobsters in grocery stores. Small-town Tennessee hardly seems like the place to find them.

    4. Anonymous @1:28 These girls work, shop and play in the small, medium and large cities near them. They live rural but shop city. I live in Nebraska for Pete's sake!
