Last night on Bringing Up Bates, we watched Josie Bates shop for a wedding dress in New York City with Kelly, Carlin, and Whitney. In this web exclusive, get a closer look at their time spent at the dress shop.

  1. Josie really is a pretty bride!

  2. The veil looked nice enough but I didn't like how Kelly Jo was trying to push the veil (and her opinions) on Josie. Brides choice!

    1. Josie is also contributing financially as she is on working on the tv show as well !

    2. Her mother was voicing her view in a totally non-pushy way. She didn't disagree with or disregard Josie's choices at all.

  6. You can see Kelly's disdain for this original dress with the beige underliner on it. She obviously thought it was immodest.. I, who dress conservatively myself, do not agree with her. She manipulated Josie to 'change her mind' and have a white liner, which did not show the beautiful lace work.
That woman needs to let her daughter choose her own wedding dress and keep quite. Nothing immodest about it at all. It even had long sleeves which were beautiful too. So sad.

    1. I dress conservatively, as well, but thought the beige under was immodest...it's all about personal convictions. I'm not sure any of these adult kids know their own convictions because they've never explained why they change their standards after marriage. We can only guess the reason.

    2. I thought the nude underlining was very immodest. I am glad Kelly had them change it! Since Kelly and Gill were paying for the dress I think their opinions mattered a great deal!

    3. 12:28, it has always been very obvious that Josie never agreed with their dressing standards.

    4. 11:28, how was it immodest?? Because it was closer to her skin tone? Personally I thought it was beautiful.

    5. None of them liked that dress anyway. The last one looked the best and it was Josie who brought up the fact that she thought she would like the white underneath more than the nude. She's strong enough to stand up for her own opinions. If you disagree watch the episode where they redecorate the girls room. She got exactly what she wanted, then and now.

    6. If your parents pay, they get a say. I'm always amazed how many entitled young women want the parents to pay for everything but also get to dictate exactly what they want.

    7. That woman... that woman is her mother. Be respectful please.

    8. I thought when they had initially put a swatch under the dress to see what the lace would look like, I thought you could still see the lace because the under lay was not bright white. But her wedding dress the under lay was bright white and you lost a lot of the beauty of the lace on the bodice. I think a better compromise would have allowed the lace to show while still being modest. Whitney had an underlay in her dress and you could still see the design of the dress because the underlay wasn’t pure white.

  8. Josie looked ticked off after no one else agreed with her on the veil. I felt bad for her.

    1. I’m just happy she went with what she wanted to. Other than changing the nice part of her dress that Kelly didn’t like🙄

  9. Of course the parents would be paying for the dress...it's another way to control them with emotional blackmail. Kelly wanted Josie to have a white underlay, and poof, there was a white underlay even though THE BRIDE in question loved the original design.

    1. Blackmail? Really? People have strange ideas about close families. It was obvious by the conversation between Josie and Carlin that Josie had already mentioned wanting to try a white underlay on the original dress. Plus, I’ve seen some brides that either didn’t listen to wise counsel or they ignored it because they were “THE BRIDE” and they ended up in a horribly non-flattering dress. Some people really don’t know what they look good in and learning to listen to and recognize good advice is a sign of maturity. Josie has impeccable taste so I don’t think that was the case but like I said...she went in planning on that dress with a white underlay.

    2. How is it blackmail? I am sure if she insisted on paying for her own dress, they would have been glad to let her. Most people take their mothers and a friend or two to get other opinions. If you don’t want someone else’s opinion then you go by yourself.

    3. 10:30 There's absolutely no guarantee that supposed "wise counsel" will be anything of the sort when it comes to picking out clothes. It's all a matter of personal tastes and what one feels comfortable wearing. Sometimes too many opinions just makes the whole process unnerving. For this very reason, I brought just my best friend along when I picked out my wedding dress.
