An Emotional Vow Renewal

Zach and Whitney Bates vow renewal

"It was really special to be a part of something that meant so much to Zach and Whitney, and it was just a lot of fun."
-Isaiah Bates

What did you think of last night's emotional season premiere episode? The feature storyline of the show was Zach and Whitney's vow renewal. If you missed the episode, you'll want to go back and read our written recap.

The couple had a few reasons for renewing their vows after only four-and-a-half years of marriage, with the main one being that Whitney was not on good terms with her parents when she and Zach got married, so they did not attend the wedding. In the video below, share in their happy moments following the vow renewal ceremony.

  1. Am I remembering right that Whitney's parents are actually adopted parents, as her biological parents died some years back? I hope I'm not remembering that wrong and posting way out of line. She refers to them now so freely as her parents that I've been second guessing my memory on the topic. I think I read it on Kelly's blog back before BUB aired.

    1. No that was a rumor spread awhile back that her bio parents had died in a car crash. She was moved out of their home when she was about 16, adopted, and has since then reconnected with her biological parents. She doesn’t ever mention her adopted parents so I’m not sure if they’re still on speaking terms.

    2. 4:18 PM: Whitney's biological parents are pictured above. They didn't die. She became estranged from them in her teen years and was adopted by the couple who attended and paid for her original wedding to Zach in 2013. She reconnected with her biological parents around the time Bradley was born.

    3. These are here biological parents.that story about them being deceased was not true. Something happened between Whitney and her dad(that no one is mentioning). Her adopted parents are the ones that’s been featured on the show from time to time.

    4. Okay, I’m confused. I think they are her adoptive parents. Seems like they didn’t get invited to the wedding but they have been featured on the show.
Maybe someone else can explain this better.

    5. My goodness; so what I take from the above comments is Whito’s Behavior caused a separation from her dad/parents and she was somehow adopted as a teen? Now, she wants nothing to do with her adoptive parents? Something is very broken here.

    6. *sorry for the auto corrects! Obvs. should have read: Whitney.

    7. 5:53 no one mentions what happened or whose "fault"it was. Do not judge people or put unnecessary blame on them, especially when you only know them through a TV show!

  2. Zach seems like a wonderful husband. Whitney is blessed to have him and he is blessed to have her. Out of all the couples their relationship seems to be the most genuine and natural. May God continue to bless them.

  3. Ellie, has Whitney ever said what happened between her and her parents that had made her so upset? I can’t imagine what could ever happen where your parents wouldn’t attend your wedding. Hope you are feeling well!

    1. She was removed from their home as a teenager, so something big would have had to happen for it to come to that. Whitney has never said what specifically and might never. It’s not really our business.

    2. If it were me, I would keep the past in the past and move forward. I feel like we should let Whitney do the same and not ask for details of something painful from her past.

      Delete
    3. I don't think that is anyone's business, do you?

    4. Wow I am the original poster. I just asked Ellie if Whitney had ever spoken about her past. I was not asking for some secret to be let out! As it was something that happened years ago I was unsure if Whitney had talked about it publicly years ago. This web page is not the easiest to search past blog topics, that’s why I asked. Thanks for being so nice to someone that had a genuine question. All you had to say was no Whitney never spoke about what happened publicly. I hate posting questions on this site...some of you are so snarky!

    5. 10:01, sometimes tone can be misread. There seem to be a lot of people asking for more details, and yours kind of comes across that way too. Your second comment completely changed how I read your question. I don't think the other commenters were necessarily trying to be snarky. There seem to be two camps here: we want more details and it's none of our business. So camp two thought they were reading a camp one comment and responded accordingly.

  6. I don’t have cable, so I haven’t seen this, but reading about it makes me so weepy!

7 years ago,I was pregnant. I was somewhere in the midst of a sinful spiral from a few years of very wicked choices. My husband and I went to a courthouse and got married. No family relationships, no real love, just a legal procedure. Shortly after this God saved my soul and my husband’s. Today we are Christians, we are expecting our 5th baby, and we are happy. Hearing that someone’s vow-renewal was partly organized for the sake of rebuilding what began in partially unjoyful circumstances is a real encouragement to me. I pray Whitney feels God’s peace and mercy now.

    1. They meant Whitney’s relationship with her parents, not that she and Zach had problems. But your story is very inspiring, thank you for sharing💗

    2. Oh, I know what they meant! Maybe I just worded something in my comment in a confusing way :)

  9. Sometimes it’s appropriate to keep family dynamics or conflicts private. I think this is an example. Having this ceremony filmed has just led to more questions, as evidenced in this blog. It’s wonderful that Whitney has reconciled with her bio parents. If having a vow renewal for them to attend was a priority, that’s great, too. However, this will undoubtedly continue to be a delicate situation and the viewing public does not need to be spectators. Hopefully, things will work out in the long run and I wish them the best. If things don’t go as planned, however, you can bet news-starved fans will chomping at the bit for details.

  11. Favorite episode! I loved Whitney’s heart towards her parents. It was lovely.

  12. I thought Whitney was adopted. Are these her adoptive parents with whom she's reconciled, or biological? Does she have a relationship with both families?

    ReplyDelete
  13. I'm surprised Whitney did not invite both sets of parents. And how did she get the idea that she was to blame for her parents' poor behavior?

    1. We don’t know that her parents behavior was poor. Many teens buck up against their parents. It is a tough time for parents to know how best to handle the situations and from what I have seen a very painful, hurtful process.

    2. How do we that the other parents weren't there? It's possible that they were there, but in the background this time.

  14. I don’t see how anyone can be confused with so much posting about it. Such a shame that it all has to be done publicly and not private. I glad she has reconciled with her parents but it really should of been a private matter. Just seems like the show needed something to film and was willing to pay and Zach and Whitney was willing to let them.

  15. I don’t know Whitney’s situation, but I have a friend whose son was not happy with their rules. He told his other friends that his parents were abusing him. They took him in not knowing the truth. If Whitney did something similar, then finally told her adoptive parents the truth they may be very hurt. It will probably take a while to repair all the relationships. The teen years are very difficult for a lot of people.

  16. This episode confused me. It wasnt as uplifting as other ones. Where were the adoptive parents? I felt like it left a lot of unanswered questions. Why fill us in partially? If not leave it private. Beautiful renewal, I just hope the adoptive parents were there too. Whitney put a lot of blame on her. Usually a kid doesnt get removed from a household unless it is a bad situation. Im glad shes feeling like a weight is off of her.
