An October Bates Bride

Another Bates wedding is in the works! And in true Bates fashion, the engagement will be only a few months long. Josie Bates and Kelton Balka are planning an October wedding, so Josie will be an autumn bride.

  7. Wow that will be beautiful! Wish we could a date! It’d be so pretty if they’d wait till the trees are turning color here in TN-like middle to late October.

    1. They may want to wait a while. Even within a family, people have different ideas about what they want. Also she may have problems getting pregnant.

    2. Hopefully not! She is only 19, just started working, and really seems to like her job.

    3. I was 19 when I got pregnant with the first and 20 with the second. Now our girls are 19 and 20, we are still young! I am so glad that we didn't wait to have kids. We raised our girls to be mature, if they wanted to be married and have kids, now, we are confident in their abilities and their relationship with The Lord! It's really a great feeling! So, many people haven't raised their kids to be mature, so their idea of someone being too young probably suits their neglect of raising mature, responsible people.

    4. I always cringe when I hear such confident predictions of when exactly a couple will get pregnant. But especially today, now that we know Zach and Whitney recently lost their 3rd baby in the womb.

I recall all sorts of speculation that they must be having Baby #3 soon, or that since we hadn't heard of a Baby #3, that they must be using birth control.

For all we know Josie may have problems conceiving like Michael has, or problems with repeated miscarriages like Erin has. Sure, it's possible she could have a honeymoon baby and become a 19 year old mom. But that is far from guaranteed.

  10. Thanks so much for at least giving us a month that it’s in Ellie! why can’t the duggars do this also? If they didn’t want to tell the world what date-I understand that one-but at least tell us the month like the Bates are doing. I wonder what month John and Abbie’s wedding is. Must be close together.

    1. I don't think the Duggars have to do the same things as the Bates, just like the Bates have to do the same as the Duggars.

    2. No that’s true Regina but that applies for a lot of other things. as it still would be nice to know the month at least for the weddings. I’m not even asking for the date! :) that should please people :)

October works well considering Tori is due in late November & will be able to take part in the wedding party.

  14. So Josie will get married at 19 years and 2 months of age. Does that make her the youngest Bates bride so far? Alyssa also married at 19 years old, but per the Birthdays tab on this blog she was born in November 1994 and married in May 2014, making her about 19 1/2 years old, right? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

  16. I'm very happy and excited for them! Josie appears to be very mature and grown up, but I am the same age as her and I can't even imagine getting married so young! Obviously she and her parents think she's ready for marriage, so kudos and congratulations to her (and Kelton)!

  21. Congratulations Josie and Kelton! I'm so happy for you both! May God bless your marriage and give you wisdom. After a couple decades of marriage, I have learned just how important it is for wives to respect their husbands and for husbands to love their wives. It looks like your parents have already given you a great example to follow. Thank you for sharing your lives with us!

    1. Cathy- I think it important for both a husband and wife to respect and love each other. It’s tough to love someone you don’t respect.

    2. I agree Anonymous 9:08, also, very well said.
This idea comes from Paul, I believe, who didn't even have a wife. ;)

  30. I wonder if Katie Bates ever had an interest in one of the Duggar twin boys her age, either Jedidiah or Jeremiah?!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Probably not. Then she would have to move to Arkansas and I think she will want to stay in Tennessee.

Why would anyone marry a Duggar after what Josh did.

      Delete
    2. Do your siblings determine your life? Josh made a lot of bad choices. It doesn’t mean his brothers or sisters will do the same thing. Everyone is an individual and has to make his own decisions. I actually think the siblings are less likely to follow in Josh’s footsteps considering how hurtful and public that it was.

      Delete
    3. There have been quite a few people that "have married a Duggar", since we learned "what Josh did".

      Delete
    4. 8:17, you understand that most people wouldn’t blaim the siblings of someone who made poor life choices, correct?

      Delete
    5. Katie is only 17, and seems more focused on her education than on boys right now. If she does go to nursing school as was mentioned in this blog, I doubt she'd want to marry until she graduates. And so far no Bates has courted before age 18 or married before turning 19. So even if she has an interest in a boy, I doubt we'll hear anything about that for at least for another year.

And considering how short Duggar courtships are, especially when they involve family friends, I doubt that even if she is interested in a Duggar, that any official courtship will be announced until a few months (or weeks!) before the official engagement.
