As promised, Josie and Kelton Balka have just announced the gender and name of their baby, due July 25th. It's a girl! And they name they have chosen is Willow Kristy Balka. Kristy was the name of Kelton's beloved mother (Kristy Balka) who passed away in April 2009 during the birth of Kelton's youngest sibling, Kerstin.

  1. Childbirth can be dangerous, even in this day and age. I hope Josie limits her family size.

    1. So can driving. Better limit your car trips.

    2. How many children do you think she should have in order to make sure that she's safe? Childbirth can be dangerous with any size family.

    3. This comment is hilarious! Dangerous. Lol

  2. Did something go wrong during the labor or did his mom have a previous medical condition? It's awfully strange for a woman in today's age in a first world country to die in labor.

    1. I was very healthy, and almost died giving birth to my first child (I needed a complete blood transfusion) at age 21. My OB said that childbirth was still one of the leading causes of death for women. It is risky, and can happen whether it's your first or fifth child.

    2. It's very uncommon, but maybe she had a preexisting condition.
Or maybe she gave birth at home and they didn't have all the necessary equipment.

    3. Unfortunately, it is not that strange. Child birth is rough on women's bodies. Sometimes even with all the precautions there can be tragedies.

    4. 11:46, America has the highest amount of maternal deaths of any developed country.

    5. Whilst it’s unusual to die in childbirth it certainly happens in first world countries. Sometimes the Mum can haemorrhage quickly and the baby block it from showing or maybe a blood clot. Kelton will no doubt be nervous about the birth,
There’s always a risk but I think we easily forget that with first class medicine available on our doorstep.
My friend lost her baby actually in childbirth all because her placenta suddenly detached and they couldn’t get her out in time.

    6. America has the highest rate of maternal morbidity and mortality among developed countries. Tis a shame with our healthcare system vs so many with so-called socialized medicine that is so maligned. Our moms are so much worse off where healthcare is for profit. And before I'm accused of being a "far left liberal" I'll let y'all know I'm just an OB RN with 27 years experience. I know of what I speak. And to top it off I've travelled to over ten countries and have family and friends located across the ocean.

  8. That is a beautiful name for a girl, congrats to the parents to be.

  9. Funny that Alyssa was the only other one to have a girl first, and she also happens to be the one who Josie looks the most like!

(I know gender is determined by the father, but still a fun coincidence, I think.)

    2. Willow is a beautiful name! How would you feel if that's what someone said to you when you told them what you would name your baby? How rude!

    3. What's wrong with that?

    4. I was kind of thinking the same thing. I have never heard the name Willow before.

    6. Willow is not an uncommon name.

    7. I’ve heard of it and know of several real life Willows of various ages as well as literary characters in some classic books. Anyway didn’t your mother teach you to just keep quiet if you have nothing nice to say.

  21. Willow is a cute name for a baby and child but not for an adult. Even Josie and Kelton are baby names.

    1. They don’t sound anything like baby names, not sure why you think that.

    2. Oh my! Where did that come from? Do you name a baby and then keep updating it as they grow. Can think of a famous Billy, Willy and Jimmy all over 40!

    3. You’re just being mean and critical. Willow,Josie and Kelton are all beautiful names from baby through adulthood.

    4. Willow is a graceful name for an adult, Josie is an older name, and Kelton is a very strong name.

    5. MO- I have a friend named Spice... When I met her she immediately laughed and said "my parents named me!" We had a little laugh and continued to grow our friendship. Everything will be fine and I don't think anyone is being "mean". It's all good- :o)

  22. Super pretty name and so happy they honored his sweet mama.

  23. Willow is a lovely name. It reminds me of a strong, but gentle, name. I have heard of a few people with the name. Willow Bay is a former news person married to the chairman of Disney.

  24. I looked it up - Willow ranked #81 for baby girl names and its meaning is SLENDER/GRACEFUL. Josie sure IS both those adjectives. . . .time will tell if baby Willow takes after her.

  25. I love the name they picked. Kelton's mom would no doubt be very proud. I had guessed they would combine Kelton and Josie and name a girl Kelsie. They could save that for the 2nd daughter if they have one. I love the name and it suits them!! Best of luck for your little family. She will be a beautiful baby.

  26. I think it's an alright name as names go.
I agree with the comment above about being critical for the sake of it. It's so unnecessary to pick apart an unborn childs name, never mind the names of her already adult parents. Just give it a rest.
Okay, these people are public figures, sharing their lives with us, but my goodness, that doesn't entitle you to be goady, and quite frankly, ridiculous.

  27. Willow is such a pretty name! And so many nickname/endearment name options to go with it!
