Erin on Being Pregnant

Bringing Up Bates Star Erin Paine Opens Up About Her Pregnancy After Multiple Miscarriages| Babies, Pregnancy, TV NewsErin (Bates) Paine, who suffered multiple miscarriages before being diagnosed with a blood clotting disorder, is pregnant and due on June 8th. She is almost 22 weeks along and is thrilled to be expecting.

Erin and Chad Paine have yet to reveal their baby's gender, but they told PEOPLE that they have chosen names.

"It was one of the most fun things for me and Chad," said the mom-to-be. "We used to go into the name books and everything, which is kind of fun. It's a sweet time together."

Even through the heartbreak of her miscarriages, Erin continued to trust in God and lean on her husband and family for strength.

Erin's pregnancy has been tough. She usually spends her days teaching piano lessons but had to put that on hold during the first few months of her pregnancy, as she suffered severe morning sickness.

During that time, Chad, an office manager at Noble Metals, Inc., graciously assumed all the household chores at the couple's cottage in Clinton, Tennessee.

When asked if she and Chad, who grew up with nine siblings, plan to have a large family, Erin replied that, due to her at-risk pregnancy, they are taking it one day at a time.

Erin is thankful for the conservative way her parents raised her, which was focused around making memories as a family and reading books, rather than watching TV. Chad's upbringing was similar.

Erin admitted that she and Chad are not carbon copies of their parents and that they will cut their own trail, but she also said they do not plan to deviate from their parents' ways too much.

"I'm sure we're not going to be identical or have the exact same standards and stuff like that, but I think that my parents did an amazing job and I hope we can be half as good as parents as they were," said Erin.

  1. I am disappointed to learn that the Bates are following down the Duggar path of selling out to tabloid journalism such as People magazine. I am sure they wouldn't allow a copy in their own home due to some of the provocative photo content and at times controversial articles. Funny how cold hard cash can compromise one's value system.

    1. Far from compromising their value system they stand out as a light to others in this dark world, Luke 8:16. I commend them for living their lives in public view and sharing their values with the world even at the cost of facing public scrutiny from people like yourself. Would you prefer that they support their large families by taking a welfare check instead? It appears to me they use their money to support their large families and also to do missionary work and support conservative causes. Never do I see them flaunting their wealth with extravagances. I'm guessing your comments are coming from a place of envy, not love.

    2. Wow, that is a very judgmental statement. I agree that they most likely have not read or purchased a People magazine (don't blame them - I don't either). But we are called to be the salt and the light of the world. To share their lives with media outlets they are sending God's message of love and possibly a new way of thinking and living to someone who may not otherwise be exposed to a Godly way of living.

God, bless the Bate and Duggars for taking your message of love to the world. How hard it must be to be condemned for publicly living as You have asked us. May other hearts be touched by them and moved to begin or refocus their walk with You. Bless my anonymous friend here who may not yet fully see the potential in the work You can do through these families. May we all strive to live a life that honors You for all to see!

    3. Negative assujption

    4. I disagree. I think that they do not for money but because it is one way to witness to other people.

    5. Perhaps they view this as an opportunity to spread their beliefs, and bring a little wholesomeness to the other, more "trashy" stories that are published in People :)

      Delete
    6. Those magazines have inappropriate things in them because that's what people sadly have been buying. Wouldn't it be nice to show that we support news about wholesome things by buying the magazines when the do write about people like the Duggars and Bates? If we don't support them...that just opens the pages up for them to write about even more trash.

    7. My family feels the same way. Actually my children had the same response as you when they read this. We do enjoy watching the Bates but we are hoping the fame doesn't change them!

    8. It is good to support and encourage other Christians, but it is more important to reach out to those with differing opinions who need inspiration, support and encouragement. It's the whole "preaching to the choir" concept. By using an atypical venue for their stories they are reaching out to a whole different audience. Also, if the bates' are getting press time, there are less pics of scantily clad women.

    9. I can see where you are coming from but I do not think this is about money to them but rather it is about being a witness to others. I think they hope to bring faith and inspiration to others through their show and articles such as the ones in people's. God bless!

    10. I had that exact same thought when I noticed they were interview by people mag. So sad.

    11. So lets see a person has to buy (support) a filthy magazine filled with worldly TRASH in order to read their article?! Seems odd considering the "conservative" lifestyle they portray. I agree with the 1st comment.

    12. At least there will be one story in that magazine that has a little but of cleanliness to it...

I'm due on June 7th how cool is that :) I'm so happy for her she's had a tough time and from all I have seen proved the great faithfulness of God in even the 'disappointing' moments of life. I hope she enjoys her blessings to the fullest!!!!!!

    1. Erin had 3, only the first one was well known due to her intented due date of that blessed child would have been so close to her brother Zack's son.

    2. on one of the eposides they talked about her having 3 miscarriages. not sure how far along on any of them were.

    3. 2 or 3. She has a health issue that requires treatment. Now that they figured that out and she is receiving treatment, Chad and Erin can be blessed with a baby.

  6. Its good to hear that her pregnancy is going well . I am a mother of 4 and I am taking some of their values to heart. I grew up way different and experience a lot at a young age . I do not have UPTV on my cable but I get to see the Duggars on TLC :)

  7. At anonymous @ 9:54, I think you are not being very nice. When they share with people magazine or others it helps to spread the word about their family and their values that maybe others wouldn't have seen or heard. It is time we stop judging everyone and be true Christians and love everyone and be kind to them wether or not we agree with them. After all that is what Jesus Christ did.

  8. I am so excited for Chad and Erin. I will continue to pray for a non-eventful ,healthy, extremely rewarding pregnancy and delivery(plus a healthy baby).

  12. To the first Anonymous: I do not think that is why they did as you put it "tabloid journalism". They're probably do it because us fans like to know what's going on in their life... If you do not like it you don't have to read it. I for one Love it when they do this!

  13. I really enjoy your 2 blogs! You do a great job! Love all the 'name that bates' episodes. Love that eventually you get a way that us tv free people can watch the various episodes! Was thrilled to see jills complete wedding episode already online! Very glad you do a summary of each episode so those of us who are tv free can get an idea of what occurred each day!

  14. I am so happy for Erin and Chad. My youngest daughter had the same problem and gave herself injections every day. We now have a handsome, happy grandson, and a beautiful ornery granddaughter. They have now decided that that is the end of their family, pregnancies were very difficult for her.

  19. I really have started liking the Bates recently... I'm very disappointed to know they are doing interviews with People Magazine. I'm a Christian with very strong convictions and I can't bring myself to read tabloids. I'm surprised - with the Duggars and Bates convictions - that they would allow such a magazine to interview them and promote them. I noticed the duggars haven't been on any more covers since the Jessa and Jill's "Love and Sex" article came out. The magazine just wants to make a profit and I'm sure they twisted the interview completely around to get more sales. I pray that both of these Christian family's don't lose sight of their first love and get caught up in the fame. I'm praying that they seek the Lord continually.

    1. When I think of tabloids I tend to think of the National Enquirer, The Star etc. I regard People magazine somewhat higher up on the decency level then those.
They usually check their stories for being factual and if wrong they do own up to their errors.
The Bates family I find refreshing, wholesome and easier to like then even the Duggars.. Sorry Michelle and Jim Bob

    2. The reason they do interviews with magazines like that is so that they can reach those who might otherwise not know about them and their convictions!

  20. Maybe "tabloid" journalism needs these type of stories instead of trash and negativity. Her struggles may be encouraging to other women.

There was living on a farm and most of these children are teachers,dr. and ect .The mother was 101 when she past away , if there can do it back in those day , these family should find a way to do it too.

  31. I've been thinking of Erin and their struggle. Bless them! How exciting! For the people knocking them selling their stories. I'd rather read about the Duggar's or Bates ANYDAY over the Kardashians. end of story!

  32. Lighten up folks, it's not selling out.Jealously is a sin.I hope they spread their love and joy however they see fit.....relax...geeze.

  33. How intriguing it is to read the posts of those willing to justify the Bates/Duggar use of tabloid publicity by giving the excuse that it is a means to give "testimony" and enlightenment to the discouraged masses! Perhaps their motives are noble and they refuse compensation, but there is no getting around the double standard, in my opinion. If your moral convictions won't allow you to have such provocative magazines in your home, how is it not hypocritical to have your photos and stories in these same publications? No, I am not envious, nor do I feel that I am being judgmental. I am simply calling out what I see as inconsistencies in the behavior of people who are purposefully putting themselves in the limelight as examples to the world. I am afraid it is all to easy to put blinders on with hero-worship of celebrities, religious or otherwise.

    2. Anonymous -- you must feel that Jesus was wrong to hang out with prostitutes and barkeepers then? Stop and think about what you're saying. Do you really believe that Christians should keep to themselves and not spread the Light of the Gospel? Think a little more critically about this -- just because these families are publishing their stories in People, does not mean they are hero-worshipping. Also, every story about a celebrity is not hero-worship, either.

  34. I know exactly what she is going through. With my first pregnancy I spent 6 out of the 7 months of my pregnancy in the hospital. Sadly it doesn't get better with any future pregnancies. This blood clotting disorder is scary at times. Praying for a safe and and restful pregnancy for Erin. (Mother of 3 beautiful miracles)

  35. I wish I had UPTV, but it is great to have this blog started by Lily and Ellie. I am grateful that the Bates and Duggars share their faith with the world via TV, magazines, etc. It is refreshing to see other Christians live out God's Will according to His Word. We know that none of us are perfect, but by being filled by God's Holy Spirit, and receiving HIS grace, love, and forgiveness, we are able to do His will on earth. These families are spreading the Good News via the media. Christina H. .
