The Bates' Guest Quarters

Tour the Bates house

"When Gil says to somebody, 'Let me give you a tour of the house,' the first thing that goes through my mind is...there's probably a mess."
-Kelly Bates

When Bobby's parents drive him up to Rocky Top, Gil and Kelly Bates realize that it's their first visit to the house and insist on giving them a tour. If you've been a long-time viewer of the show, you've seen the family's bedrooms, but you probably haven't seen the guest quarters (video below).

  1. I remember on 18 kids and Counting the beds lined up with that sloped ceiling and the boys hunched over moving around. Looking at that room now, it's hard to believe all those beds fit in that room. What a blessing it was to the Bates family for the Duggars and Wilsons to gift them with adding on to their home.

    1. Yes, that was awesome, Casey! It must have been so exciting for them when they were all done and in their roomy new house.

  2. I understand about hospitality and all that, but don't ANY of these people know about "Holiday Inn"? Why cram extra people in your house when some space and privacy to shower, relax and use the bathroom at night/morning is preferable. I'm SURE they can afford a couple of nights lodging at a modest hotel nearby. Just unnecessary IMO..

    1. It was more they were wanting to be there to get to know the family. The guest bedroom, which I have also stayed in, is off from the main areas of the house so less noise, it also has an ensuite bathroom

    2. It's always a blessing to provide hospitality to guests. We don't have a lot of room at our home but we have overnight guests. Hotels/motels are okay but you just don't get that special TLC you get when you stay with friends.

    3. I agree! It's not the way the Bates "roll". Nothing like good old fashioned hospitality, wherever you live! We do it all the time. You get more time to visit with your guests. I just make sure the bathrooms are clean and the kitchen is neat. The Bates enjoy life. I love that about them!

  3. So nice that they have a separate room and bathroom for guests. I'm glad that Bobby's parents got to visit and spend the night with the Bates.
