    2. No, the Bates girls starting with Tori seem to be following a : boyfriend/ girlfriend for a year, courting for a year, then engaged for a few months then married format. They’re also allowed private phone/ text conversations and chaperones while still there, seem much more informal.

    1. They were in an in between kind of phase. More than friends but not officially courting. They all seem to say boyfriend/girlfriend during that time though. Tori & Bobby were in that phase for a year before officially courting and almost another year before engagement.

    1. Did you just use proper grammar? I caught a word in your comment that I wouldn't consider proper grammar either

    2. They live in the south, and they speak with southern accents. I think people who live in the south just speak that way. Personally, I like the way they talk:) It's their accents that make me not mind improper grammar. If someone talked that way without an accent, It probably would get on my nerves:)

    3. 11:11, I'm from the south and use proper grammar. I'm also home schooled, so hopefully no one will blame their improper grammar on that.

    4. It isn't their accent or even the use of a single word that bothers me. My English teacher always instructed us to put the other person first in the sentence and then finish it as though you were speaking as an individual. So you would say "Evan and I went to town" rather than "me and Evan" Putting the other person first shows respect. And you wouldn't say "me went to town" but instead would say "I went to town". Why does it bother me? Sadly I think it makes them sound uneducated, which is a shame because I know they value education.

    5. Kathy 8:40 am: I was taught very similarly. If you can remove the other person and the sentence still sounds correct, then you have it. "Evan and I went to church, Evan went to church, I went to church". It does reverse at the end of a sentence though. "Tori went to church with Evan and me, Tori went to church with Evan, Tori went to church with me". I've noticed that Carlin gets in backwards... puts "me" at the beginning of sentences and "I" at the end.

    6. Having proper grammar isn't as important as their relationship with the Lord and each other.

  13. My goodness why do y'all with such negativity have to try and ruin everything nice? We get it your miserable and grammar makes you crazy, although my guess a lot more does like happiness! Try being happy instead of negative, make a decision to think something nice when you read/see something like this and you will start to be happy and not miserable. You choose your thoughts and negative ones are only gonna make you miserable. This is sweet and if you can't see that and be happy for them, you are jealous and that something you need to take up with God. Be happy for others and you will be happy too.

  16. Even though there are things we do differently,I try not a criticize on someone else's blog. Now there is a big debate about the proper use of the word else. Now you can say I am not using English correctly either. "If you can't say something nice about someone, don't say anything" (quoted from my Mom)
