The Bates 'Seas' the Day

Carlin Bates and Michael Keilen

On tomorrow's new episode of Bringing Up Bates, the Bates kids meet Gil's aunts and are shocked at how agile they are, even in their 80s. Below, you'll find a written summary and photos from the show.

Thursday, June 21
7am: Bates Bonus IV
Enjoy extra scenes from last week's episode.
8pm: Eye Love You Day
9pm: Seas the Day NEW!
Now that many of the older Bates girls have moved out of the house, it’s Carlin’s turn to take on new household responsibilities, including tutoring her younger siblings. But how will the Bates kids respond to Carlin’s new rules? Later, the Bates head to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, so the kids can meet Mama Jane’s side of the family for the first time. The adventure begins with lunch at a seafood restaurant, but can the kids be convinced to try seafood for the very first time? And despite the cold weather, the family enjoys some bonding time on the beach, including a morning exercise stroll with Mama Jane and her sisters and some football on the sand. But during the game, will Carlin lure Evan away from the guys to pose for some “engagement worthy” photos?

  2. Gil and Kelly have been married almost 30 years and their kids haven't met Mama Jane's side of the family. How does that happen?

    1. I know, I agree. These are Gil's Aunts and Uncles!! My Aunts and Uncle's came up the hospital to meet my babies, and they've been involved their entire lives. My kids are 23, 26, and 29 and their grandparents' families are all over 75. They went to my daughter's wedding. Why didn't Gil's Aunts/Uncles go to Zach's/Erin's/Alyssa's/Tori's/Michael's weddings?

    2. Yes I wondered the same thing. I would've thought they would've wanted to meet mama janes sisters long before now! Especially if they were close enough like that in South Carolina! So there would've been no family reunions and such like ever, ever? I guess some family relationships are just like that! But kinda surprised hearing that coming from the Gil Bates family.

    3. IKR!! I know pretty much all my family on both sides. My mom's side has a family reunion every few years also.

    4. I never met anyone on my maternal grandmothers side of the family, although that could be because they weren’t the friendliest of peoplešŸ˜¬ Sometimes you just live too far away from people to go visit, and when you have a huge family and a tight budget that can make traveling more difficult.

    6. There is a story there. Could be money. Before the TV show their big family lived off of a tree cutter’s salary.

    7. For those wondering why they'd never met these relatives:
Extended family relationships can have complicated histories. You never never know what stories may be hidden or buried. It's a good thing the Bates kids are finally meeting their grandmother's family.

    8. My children don’t know their grandparents’ siblings. There can be all kinds of reasons. My dad isn’t close to his brothers, so we weren’t close to them. My mom’s siblings have always lived several hours away. My mom has always made the effort to see her nieces and nephews and their children...: but her siblings have never gone out of the way to see us or our children. Sometimes families are just not close even if no one is fighting.

  3. So Carlin did get engaged at myrtle beach??? Is this the UP special announcement?

  4. Have you noticed subtle hints with each blog posts recently indicating something's up with carlin? Here's "engagement worthy pics" and special announcement coming soon from another post...just makes you wonder. But
when was this beach trip? If it was in march they'd be having their wedding any day now so somehow that doesn't seem right either.

    1. Up wants everyone to watch another different Wedding type show tonight, Friday night, to see who got engaged. Everyone knows it was Carlin by last night’s not so subtle hints. I don’t like UP’s practice of getting people to watch different shows by embedding Bringing Up Bates news in the new show.

  5. I'm also surprised that the Bates kids never tried seafood before this trip to Myrtle Beach. I can understand them not being able to afford fresh seafood before the show, but they've never even had a fried fish finger? Or do they mean "seafood" as in shrimp and clams, not finned fish? That makes a little more sense, I guess.

  6. I think that it’s Josie and Kelton who are getting engaged..

  7. Am I the only one who feels that Kelly puts pressure on their daughter’s boyfriends to propose? With all due respect, like last night when she dropped a not so subtle hint, “Carlin that’s an engagement worthy picture.”
