Kelly's New Outlook on Life

Gil and Kelly Bates visit Kelly's doctor

Kelly Bates: "I feel great. I'm sleeping, I have so much energy. I am like a brand new person."

Gil Bates: "It is a miracle transformation."

Did you catch last night's new episode of Bringing Up Bates? You watched a training session with Lawson and his dog, you saw Kade's second birthday celebration, and you heard Nathan tell his parents about his new girlfriend. You also watched a nervous Kelly be loved on by her family ahead of her big surgery. In a scene not shown in the episode (video below), Gil takes Kelly for her first appointment post-surgery. The prognosis is looking good!

  1. Kelly’s quick recovery was amazing! Must have been prayer!

  2. I am so glad to see Kelly speak out about her surgery and all it’s positive effects. Maybe it will inspire people who may be hesitant to have her own surgeries.

  3. I’m genuinely happy for Kelly, Gill and her family. It’s very frustrating watching a family member not take steps to care for themselves! I have been in that position. I’m glad Kelly came through the surgery well and identifies how much better she feels!!! May she work hard to keep herself healthy for her own well-being and the happiness of her loved ones!

  4. Just wondering what month the surgery took place? And what was the procedure called?

  5. What kind of Surgery did she have.

  7. Was this life or death surgery? Out patient? Just curious . They leave you hanging by not giving all details. Seems to have been minor surgery by the way they talk about. Thought it was something like cancer by way they are acting.

  8. These are the people who didn't allow Katie to be a nurse? Look at how medical professionals can help others.

    1. Didn’t allow her to be a nurse like her sister?

    2. I never heard of that happening, but now Katie is an adult who can make her own choices, if she still wants to pursue a career. It doesn't seem like that is what she wants now. Also, Michaela is a nurse, so there is a medical professional in the family. But I get your point--not much career opportunity for these young women because marriage and babies are considered their purpose in life.

    3. Why would they allow Michael to become a nurse and not Katie,of course they allowed her that's why she started studying nursing cos she was allowed but but Katie herself changed her mind and decided to become a beautician instead,it was obviously a more appealing job as it's not as much hard work as nursing.

    4. Maybe Katie couldn’t handle the tough course work?

    5. Michaela was married and made her own choices. Even so, if she and Brandon had had children easily, I doubt she would have embarked on that path in her 30's. Katie, OHOH, was living under her parents roof, and inexplicably switched from a stable, rewarding profession where she could help others (nursing) to cutting people's hair.

    6. 12:46, people who cut hair are helping people too.

    7. Katie is very young and maybe had a problem with commiting to the rigors of nursing school. She appears to be more interested in getting married.

    8. 12:46 not everyone I cut out to be a nurse, and that's fine. We all have to discover our strengths and weaknesses and be honest about them. Some people develop a passion for hair -cutting, styling, etc. And they're needed too!

    9. It seems as though Katie wanted to be a nurse, but her parents may have felt it was inappropriate. Young people need encouragement to reach hard goals, and she may not have received it. Also, nursing would have kept her in school for many years, and an early marriage would've been much harder. She has many sisters who took the early marriage route, and the one sister who got a nursing degree seems to have done it because she did not become pregnant.

  9. I'm so happy that Kelly's surgery was successful and that she's feeling better now. I personally know it wears on a person when they aren't feeling well for such an extended time and now that it's behind her, I hope she will have a renewed sense of enjoyment for each day. She seems like the sweetest, most genuine person and I admire her so much.

    1. I don't like their religion AT ALL, but Kelly Jo is such a giving and supportive person to her family. She really is a great mother who loves her kids individually and would do anything for them.

    2. Perhaps her relationship with God enables her to be and do the things you admire. I know God has worked in me over the years to shape me into a more compassionate and caring person.

    3. I also am saved (a Christian which is a follower of Christ) what is there not to like AT ALL? Please explain.

    4. @11:09 I'm not the OP, but the main thing that I don't like about this form of Baptist/evangelical/ fundamentalism in particular is its extreme patriarchal foundation and subordination of women. Most religions had their beginnings in this way, but have modified over the years to a degree. Unfortunately, some take everything in the Bible literally, or interpret it to suit their own agendas.

    5. 11:09 - I hope the poster does clarify. I am guessing the person doesn’t disagree with the basic beliefs of Christianity as much as a disagreeing with the rules Gil and Kelly set up from their understanding of God and Scripture. But the poster would have to explain.

  10. I'm more concern that Kelly has stop taking her medications. That's not good and I wish the Doctor had said something.

    1. He did say something. Maybe watch it again. He said if the meds weren't working, then it was time for surgery. And she had the surgery. So apparently the pills weren't helping, and obviously the surgery did.

    2. Kelly's medication was for acid reflux. She stopped taking her medication because she no longer had the acid reflux after her surgery. You don't continue to take medication if you no longer need it.

  11. what kind of surgery did she have she probably has other issues that they do not talk about.

    1. Don't we ALL have issues we don't talk about? 😄 Seriously, her medical history is none of our business. She can share as much or as little as she wants.
