Katie's Boyfriend

Katie Bates and Travis Clark

Did you enjoy hearing Katie talk about her boyfriend, Travis, on tonight's episode of Bringing Up Bates? At the time of filming, the two 18-year-olds were just friends and had been talking for two months. Now, they are in an official courtship! Congratulations to the lovebirds!

Katie and Travis, who hails from New Jersey, met through a mutual friend. Since the episode was filmed, they have both turned 19. On the show, Katie stated that they are "taking it slow" because of how young they are.

  1. This young couple needs privacy, so there is no embarrassment if it doesn't work out, like with Trace.

    1. Why would they be embarrassed?
If anything they should feel relieved that they found out soon they weren’t right for each other.

    2. All daughters went straight from courtships to engagements to marriages.

    3. They are most likely embarrassed because viewers knew all about it and many comment on it. That's not something I would have liked with my first romantic friendship as a young adult!

    4. They have had a long getting to know you time. They didn’t just meet.

    5. What happened with Trace and his girlfriend? Haven't heard about that one.

    6. I can't see any advantage to Katie marrying at 19, and plenty of disadvantages. Waiting a few years and marrying at 24 would be better all around.

  2. That's a super cute picture of them.

    1. I doubt that they will actually "take their time." Courtships tend to be short and everything happens fast.

    2. That's not true, Carlin and Evan courted for almost a year. I think Josie's was short because they liked each other for years, but Gil wanted them to cool off since they weren't adults.

  4. Congrats to them! I figured she would be the next one to Court, even though the parents want the older boys out... well married off

    1. Probably seminary or music ministry.

    2. I wonder if Travis will be able to use his degree and earn an adequate income; enough to support a family. Several of the Bates sons in law found out that they couldn't make an adequate income as a young pastor, music director. They had to rely on other Bates family members for employment.

    3. MO- I like the way Kelton prepared himself for life. He went to a school and got a 4 year Accounting degree, learned a skill, and attended a Christian college to learn more about his faith. The reality is that MOST can't just rely on just music and preaching. :o)

    4. @6:24 am - You know his father and brother preach at a very large church that his father founded. Travis writes music and even had to take time off from singing because of health reasons. He has known adversity. He plays the piano, guitar and cello. He is at a Baptist college studying music education. His music repotoire is extensive. Consider he performed in front of 4,000 people at age 8!!!

    5. @4:10pm I think the point of the previous replies was the question if Kelton can make an adequate income to support a family. I guess he could work with his father but again, will that give him an adequate income? I hope he does become a music teacher. There would be a greater income if he worked in a public school. Would he be "open" to that environment?

  8. It must be scary to know when you marry your going to be pregnant within a couple of months! I hope they wait until they are 21 and spend the next couple of years really getting to know eachother.

    1. I don't think they see pregnancy as a scary thing. I mean, nobody wants to go through labor and probably every pregnant woman has her worries, but they generally see pregnancy as a good and exciting thing.

    2. Each person/couple is capable of deciding for themselves what they want to do. All the married Bates kids seem to be very happy in their marriages, so whatever they decide to do, I wish them well.

    3. That isn’t always the case. Michael has been married for years. Natural family planning is an option if they want to pursue it, but they don’t seem to make that choice.

    4. I don't think that it's scary to know you are going to get pregnant. I think it's exciting to hope that God is going to choose to bless you with a little one.

    5. 4:31 You do know that Michael is struggling with infertility problems, right ? She opened up on their website. I hope none of her sisters goes through the same ordeals!

    6. 4:54- I hope you understand that not every woman wishes to be pregnant right away. Some don't want to have any children at all. Not everyone wishes for the same things.

  11. I wonder what "taking it slow" means for the Bates family. I guess they will be married within a year and a half.
