Bates Guys Get Muddy

The more mud, the better! Tonight on Bringing Up Bates, the Bates guys get together to celebrate Zach's 30th birthday. Between four-wheeling and skeet shooting, it's a dream of a birthday party for these fun-loving men. But mama bear Kelly Bates is worried for their safety. "Our boys are very adventurous, very competitive," she says. "When you get all of that energy behind the wheel of any type of vehicle, that causes extreme concern for me."

Scroll down for a video, photos, and TV listings. Also, see yesterday's post for a preview of Tori's labor, which will also be on tonight's episode.

  4. I wish the girls would be more adventurous and do activities like this. They need to have fun getting dirty too. Don't be so worried about having perfect hair, make-up, and clothes.

    1. Ugh, some of us girls do NOT have fun getting dirty. Great if you do, but we don't all have to be alike.

    2. I think the reason we only see the gender roles pushed for two reasons. 1. We only have 4 girls single and it's harder for them to get together. The narrative of this reality is to push marriage to the girls more than the boys. 2. It becomes easier to push the strong, male role.
Remember when Warden was interested in baking? We stop seeing that.
It would be nice to see the girls do something but, that changes the way Gil and Kelly has shown their daughter's.

I hope this shows but it may not because it speaks on a different narrative.

    3. Anon.8:16...Exactly! No, we don't have to all be alike but we never see ANY of the girls taking part in activities like this. The girls ARE all alike when it comes to traditional roles and "ladylike behavior."

    4. 3:34, but there's nothing wrong with that. I actually remember another episode awhile back where they went mudding. I don't remember who all went, but I remember Kelly screaming. 😄

    2. Some girls enjoy getting dirty. I'm not one of them. I find watching stuff like that kind of boring.

    3. @7:32- Girls aren't supposed to get dirty? We all have our preferences. I know guys and gals who don't like to even have a hair out of place. However, I don't think it's ever appropriate to assume there are things a girl or woman shouldn't do because it doesn't fit some prescribed traditional role. At one time, women weren't allowed to vote or own property. Thank goodness we have evolved and continue to evolve from such archaic views.
