Websters Leave YouTube

Alyssa and John Webster have been creating content on YouTube for almost six years. They have enjoyed giving fans a glimpse into their lives, including birthdays, the arrival of new babies, house projects, travel, and just basic everyday life. However, they just uploaded a "Goodbye" video and have announced that they are stepping away from YouTube. The Websters explain that as their kids get older, they want to give them more privacy. They also mention that now that their children are able to read, the negative comments are much more concerning to them. They might still upload videos of big moments but will no longer be sharing regular videos.

  1. Well, I think that's a good idea. Wish the rest of the ones with young children would follow suit and give their children some privacy.

    2. Protecting our children should always be a parent's #1 priority. I admire John & Alyssa's wisdom in making this decision. It was made in love. Thank you for sharing your lives with us. May God continue to bless you and grant you His peace ❤️✝️🙏

  2. I totally agree with their decision. Although I regularly watched their content a piece of me always felt slightly uncomfortable.

  3. With more and more parents leaving social media like YouTube and Instagram I think this is wise. Our children come first over clicks and likes.

  4. They just came to realize that their children's privacy should be a priority? How sad.

  5. Every Bates and every Duggar should do this. Fade into obscurity. What a shame they were all brought up to think that the public needs to provide them with attention and money. This is treading dangerously close to some things the Bible warns us about.

    1. Like what? Legitimately curious and would like to know.

    2. I think a lot of people forget that some people won't LET them fade into obscurity. After being public figures for so long, people feel like they know them and remain curious. There's a whole set of internet content out there that's basically mining every Duggar video (and to some degree the Bates, especially when Duggars are present) for information on the ones that have pulled back--pregnant bellies, who's talking to whom, who's missing from family gathering videos, etc. I think some people would rather control their own message so the trolls aren't quite as likely to dig in a negative manner. I know the Bates have been generally less controversial in general, but most of the kids have remained somewhat active on social media and I do think there's a lot less of the negative gossipy content about them. Negative comments, sure, but less content actively trying to "catch them" in stuff. Maybe a coincidence but sometimes if you give *just* enough, people leave it at that. But it's a tough balance and there are certainly drawbacks to being out in public at all.

    3. Philippians 2:3
      Ecclesiastes 5:10
      And so on

    4. I’m not convinced any of them “want” to fade into obscurity!

    5. @1:45 I don't really see the connection with those verses. I've never thought the Bates think only of themselves but are actually quite thoughtful of others and they are not money hungry.

  6. I am so sorry negative comments are made. I think the entire Family is sweet, kind and beautiful.

  7. That's to bad that people are so mean that the Websters have to stop posting regularly. People are certainly entitled to opinions but they're not entitled to be jerks and then ruin it for the rest of us who are nice. Ugh.

  8. Well at least they'll keep us updated every so often. Seriously how disappointing. I love to keep up with families and some meany commenters have to go and mess it up for the rest of us...but I do understand that there are stages in a kids life that are better kept more private...but each kid is different. Some may thrive on privacy, others on openness and still others it doesn't matter which way.

    1. @8:50 Exploiting and exposing your kids to the world via the internet is a risky arrangement, no matterr how old they are. It is irresponsible parenting any way you look at it.

  9. I can respect their decision to do this. I was getting tired of the vlogs the past year and stopped watching except on occasion. Their kids need more privacy in their lives now that they are all (except Rhett right now) school age and doing more activities outside the home. Hope they still post pictures on occasion on Facebook and Instagram of the kids and share Allie Jane's 10th birthday in April on YouTube.

  10. As much as it saddens me to see their adventures as a young Christian family being pulled from You Tube, it is much more important to protect these precious children of God from those who seek to harm with their harsh criticism of these impressionable children. "If you can't say anything nice about someone then don't say anything at all"! I for one am praying for all of the nay sayers🙏

    1. It saddens me that any parent would exploit their impressionable children on YouTube, or reality TV for that matter.

  11. How very sad that adults scrutinized children. I had no idea, because I left my positive comments and don't go reading all the comments, etc.
Praying for their peace and growth... and that their kiddos know they are God's gifts!!! Proud of this young couple for making this decision. <3 Blessings and hugs.

    1. Negative comments are quite common on these social media platforms. That's why it's a really bad idea to put your children on them. The kids didn't ask to be on the platform or be subjected to cruel comments from strangers.

  12. Refreshing- parents being parents without the need of accolades or attention seeking for themselves! Parents doing what is best for their children! Now that is what I call mature parenting!

  14. About time. I'm glad they're finally showing some concern for the welfare of their children.

  15. No need to please the fans, put your children first and do what's best for them.

  16. You put yourself out there to the public thats what happens. To be expected

  17. I understand John & Alyssa’s decision it’s difficult cause I loved their channel but I also know they have to do what’s best for them their kids same as anyone who made the decision to limit or leave YouTube or other social media outlets

  18. Thank you thousand times Alyssa & John for inviting hundreds or thousands or more into your home and sharing so much even though who knows if they will see this so god bless best wishes & prayers always

  20. Good for them. I'm actually thinking about making my Instagram account from public to private and only opening it up to followers only, not the whole world.

    1. Better yet, don't have an Instagram account?

  21. IMO, Alyssa, like the other, only opened videos to make money. A source of income for them. Nothing really personal and wanting to be "with" their fans.
