'Baby Mamas and Bridesmaids Drama' Recap

Bringing Up Bates "Baby Mamas and Bridesmaids Drama"

  • Carlin’s wedding is in two weeks, but she is graduating from college, and Kelly wants to throw a little party to celebrate her accomplishment. The Bates mom meets with Whitney to plan the event, but when Whitney gets a call from her doctor’s office, the discussion quickly turns to another topic. Whitney is pregnant and just found out the gender, but Zach doesn’t know yet. Kelly wants her to reveal it at the party.
  • “So Kelly really is the first one in the Bates family to know that I’m pregnant this time,” says Whitney. “And the only thing I think I have going for me is the graduation party is the very next day. So she’s not really that good at secrets, but I think since it’s like in less than 24 hours, I’ll be good this time.”
  • “I was a little worried cause it is all about Carlin’s day and her graduation,” admits Whitney.
  • Josie’s due date is almost here, and she and Kelton have just moved into a two-bedroom apartment to make room for the baby. Josie’s friend Samantha comes over to help decorate the nursery. When Kelton returns home from work, he starts assembling the crib, which ends up being a more difficult job than he had anticipated.
  • “At the end of the day, because of Josie’s hard work, that nursery looked incredible,” says Josie.
  • On the day of her graduation party, Carlin is thrilled to have completed her degree. “I couldn’t have made it through school without Mom, that’s a fact,” says Carlin. After eating, the family members share praises about Carlin. “If you’re ever needing something, Carlin’s always there, and she’s always going to be there for you,” Callie shares, through tears. “And I can’t believe she’s getting married.”
  • At the end of the party, Kelly turns the floor over to Zach, who thinks he is about to announce the pregnancy.  “Well, I actually do have something to say, Carlin, I love you very much. And my wife was talking to Mom the other day and may have let something slip, and Mom can’t keep a secret, so we’re just going to go ahead and let everybody know that we have another little baby on the way.”
  • At that point, Kelly opens the coffee cup that she has been pretending to sip and throws pink confetti all over Zach. “That’s what happens when you tell Mom,” exclaims Zach.
  • “I don’t think I’ve ever seen Zach stunned,” says Kelly. The dad of three admits that he had no idea that Whitney had even decided to find out the gender.
  • Later, the Bates and Stewart ladies meet at Whitney’s house to discuss bridesmaids dresses. Renee and her husband arrive to help. “We have more problems than we thought we did,” says Carlin. The ladies try on their dresses, which are a variety of styles and colors, and express a lot of concerns and complaints. When Tori says she can’t fit in her dress, Carlin responds, “Then we’re going to the gym together.”
  • Everyone agrees that Whitney’s dress looks great, but Whitney is concerned that her baby bump will grow too much before the wedding. “I just ate two cheeseburgers and a large fry and a piece of pie all by myself!” she exclaims. “There’s a baby inside, which makes me crave food, so it’s rough.”
  • Renee has plans to remake a lot of the dresses so they fit better. “Renee is magic,” says Erin.
  • When Carlin tries on her dress, it’s perfect. “I do not want to hurt anybody’s feelings, but it is the prettiest wedding dress that I’ve ever seen,” says Kelly.
  • “Okay that really hurt my feelings,” responds Erin. “She says it every time,” laughs Tori.

  1. Couples should decide about finding out the gender together. It's something they should do together.

    1. I'd say it's only a "should" if the dad wants to find out at the same time. Some dads may be ok with not finding out at the same time.

  2. Now,don't anyone criticise Whitney for eating too much,I was the same when I was pregnant, people were saying you don't need to eat for two but I could'nt help it I was always hungry,it must be the hormones 'cos some pregnant women don't feel like eating much caused by nausea.

    1. When I was pregnant with my second I was always eating, because it seemed like all the food went to the baby, so I was always hungry.

  3. This was the first Bates' episode I can honestly say was boring. I could not believe no one knew Whitney was pregnant, because the Bates' are clearly familiar with pregnancy and she clearly looked pregnant in all the ways women appear pregnant early on. I hope the producers don't resort to these staged episodes which became the doom to shows like the Duggars. I felt even Carlin's graduation picnic was staged as most of the family wasn't there and the food was in containers meant for individual servings - like the producers ran out and got what they could find on the deli-case to stage a picnic. I love this family, but I would have preferred watching the little kids running around a messy house and Kelly grocery shopping over this episode.

    2. Reality shows are always staged--that's just the way TV shows are made.

    3. 5:59 - I do enough watching kids running around and grocery shopping of my own. I would rather watch a party or anything else!

  4. I did like how Kelly kept sipping her "coffee!" So funny...she was a good sport.

  5. Whitney obviously doesn’t eat like that all the time. She looks like she has barely gained any weight except for her stomach area. She really looks great!

  6. I don’t understand this timeline... Zach and Whitney announced their pregnancy to the public on May 10th, and Carlin’s graduation’s party was on May 16th. So at that point everyone knew about the pregnancy, even us.

    1. It just seemed like "Hey, we need a filler episode, what can we do?" It simply wasn't believable and this family is so nice and such a breath of fresh air in our society. Please UPTV, don't start faking episodes - rethink what made the show so popular in the first 2-3 seasons and just let them do normal things. I can understand they may want to let the youngest children to stay out of the limelight while they are in school and forming their characters, but like others have stated, I don't even mind watching the boys cut down trees, as long as it is authentic!

  7. It was boring. I like how the family says good things about each other at the get together. Another wedding, another pregnancy announcement, another birth. Maybe focus on Michael and her nursing career pursuit. Or the guys. You lost me on this episode. It was a way to steal Carlin's thunder, it should of been just about her. She seems so sweet, really guys you had to do it there? People that don't need the attention or demand it are the ones that need it the most.

    1. People that don't need the attention are the ones that need it most . . . . Huh.

    2. I agree. It was Carlin’s celebration. Don’t do a selfish announcement on Carlin’s day. Tacky.

  8. I enjoyed the show. My only disappointment was that they did not have any scenes in the family home. The bridesmaids segment would have been perfect in their big family room.

  9. Yes, it was clearly obvious to me that Whit was quite along already with this baby. The rest of the had to know. She was showing big time here. UP, please quit these ridiculous stages scenes. They air badly and are not what we would like to see on this program. Who orders bridesmaids' dresses from a website? NO one I know as the risk of not fitting is too great and not enough time to alter. The cost of altering should be avoided in purchasing the correct-enough size dress in a physical store. What bridal consultant such as Miss Renee' constantly makes home visits? No one I have ever heard of. You go to THEIR PLACE OF BUSINESS for any appointments. Another unbelievable staged thing. Oh, yes, welcome baby Klhoe, but I can hear Kelly from here in Central Florida screaming.

    1. Renee comes across as a very accommodating bridal consultant, and no doubt she gets paid for these business trips (and the free publicity is nice too!). The Duggar girls have ordered bridesmaid dresses online before. Since there are websites that sell bridesmaid dresses, obviously there are people who buy them that way.
