'Nashville Nursery Makeover' Recap

Bringing Up Bates "Nashville Nursery Makeover"

  • “Ever since we moved, I’ve been talking with Erin, telling her she has to come decorate before he gets here because I have no skills whatsoever,” says Tori. In Nashville, Kelly, Erin, Everly, Whitney, Callie, and Bradley arrive at Tori’s apartment to help decorate Kade’s nursery. Lawson is already there.
  • “I didn’t get invited on this trip,” says Gil. “Of course, I’m always the guy that says, ‘Oh, don’t do that….it’s fine like it is.’”
  • But in all seriousness, Gil is very happy. “It sure is wonderful when, as a parent, you look at your kids all working together to help each other…”
  • Tori only has two bedrooms in her apartment, so the nursery must double as a guest bedroom. “I usually volunteer Chad for a lot of work,” says Erin. “[Tori] didn’t have a headboard, so I’m like, ‘Hey, you know what, Chad’s great at those. He can make that, no problem.’”
  • When it’s time to move furniture, Lawson does not allow pregnant Tori to lift anything, even light drawers. The walls in the apartment cannot be painted, so Erin makes square decals out of contact paper to create an accent wall. Everyone else is doubtful that it will end up looking good. “I’ve got confidence in her, but this is one that I honestly cannot picture,” says Kelly.
  • At Hendersonville Samaritan Thrift Store, the ladies shop for decorations. But it isn’t long before they are adding clothing items to the cart. “My sisters, when they go shopping for one thing, it does not mean that’s all they will be shopping for, and that can be a dangerous thing,” says Lawson.
  • Zach arrives with Kaci and tries to move things along. “Dad would die if he was here,” he says.
  • “I cannot go into a thrift store and just buy a couple of things,” admits Erin during an interview. “I have to see everything in the thrift store. Have you ever seen...them people that go in there and find something that’s like a million dollar artifact? That could be me finding that for us one day.”
  • “I’m not sure what a million dollar artifact would look like, but I know what a good pair of jeans looks like,” responds Chad.
  • When they return to the apartment, two women deliver a bouquet of flowers, a huge bunch of balloons, and snacks for Kelly’s birthday. They are from Gil, of course. “I almost think that I do better when I’m away on my birthday because I get this huge surprise package every time, then I still get to celebrate when I come home,” says the birthday girl. “It’s a good deal!”
  • The room turns out great, and Tori and Bobby could not be happier. “…We could put some decals on the wall and make it fitting for a baby, but once you’ve been exposed to what Erin can do to a room, there’s no going back,” says Bobby.
  • In Powell (near Knoxville), Katie is in class at Crown College. “Last minute this semester, I decided to sign up to do the cosmology program,” says Katie. “Today we are working on our very first day of hair color, so I’m kind of nervous…” Josie kills it, so there’s a level of intimidation.”
  • “The thing that scares us with Katie is, she’s a bit of a prankster and a jokester, and I’ve just got a feeling that the first time I let her cut my hair, she’s going to just like do something crazy…” says Lawson.
  • Katie still hopes to study nursing. “I’m the kind of person that wants to do everything I see…but finishing it is the thing,” she says. “I want to do nursing, but I’m going to finish up cosmetology first…”

  1. Oh Lawson, that's nice of him to not let Tori carry stuff. Haha The girls getting more than they went for at store. Awe I want a GIL in my life. Lucky Kelly!

  2. Lawson seem to always show up. Invited or not.

  3. Lawson not allowing Tori lift is so sweet and wise. The headboard Chad made was great but Erin acts like all he has to do is snap his fingers and one appears. Chad must work all the time. What's up with the old books? Where they children's books or just old books?

  4. Erin needs to humble herself some. She is very talented, but it appears to have gone to her head. She also puts Chad on the spot at times. I know he will do anything for her, but she takes advantage of that too often!

  5. That nursery was NOT decorated for a small child. What will happen when Kade pulls those stickers off the wall by his crib and eats one? Or they begin to fall off in to his crib? What will happen when he's toddling along and knocks those books and bookends off the window sill? That spotlight over the crib will shine right in his eyes and it will be a hazard. Not good decorating IMO.

    1. Newborns can't reach. Also if he's toddling around someone should be watching him. An attentive parent is the best way to baby proof a room.

    2. I am sure they will move things around as he grows. Worrying about things on a window sill at this point is crazy. It takes months before kids begin moving around. If the stickers start falling off the wall, Tori can easily pull the rest of them down.

    3. When you decorate a nursery, it is for the first 3-4 years of the baby's life. At around five years, a child gets too old for childish decorations and develops his own taste. This nursery will have to be changed up as soon as her baby is mobile! And he is unlikely to like (or feel comforted by) those decorations!

  6. Or if he stands in his crib and pulls down that amazing wall art with his initials, or hits his head on the corner of those cute chairs and table ( perfect for 3 year olds). Would love to see some stuffed animals, children’s books, Bible art, soft colorful rugs, animal pictures etc. Save it all for Kade’s teenage years or college for which it would be perfect!

  7. Am I the only noticing that Brooklyn is always left out during the show? It seems that Erin favorite Carson and Everly over Brooklyn. I know that people will read this and @ me with some comments that I’m being rude. This might not show up because it points out and if so that’s sad. I have noticed a couple of times where Erin does not bring Brooklyn to events or does not engaged with her. Why is that? Chad’s working so whose watching Brooklyn? Brooklyn was not at Tori’s bridal shower, but Carson was. She did not make it to Nashville during this episode either. My question is not to be rude but to look at something and wonder why? Really, look at the recent shows and you will see too.

    1. I think they have mentioned that Brooklyn is shy before.

    2. Actually, in a recen from a few weeks ago, they show Brooklyn at her house enjoying time with her cousins and Gil. Gil said that he loves time with Brooklyn, and that people always steal her, so he was happy to have some time with her... She is a loved up little girl. Maybe she just doesn't want to have cameras following her all the time.

    3. Erin has said she can't imagine traveling without Carson. So she doesn't. She hasn't said the same about Brooklyn. Maybe Brooklyn is harder to travel with? Still, I can't imagine leaving a child behind when I travel

  8. I totally agree!! Too adult looking and dangerous for baby Kade.

  9. Tori and Bobby should get involved with that HGTV show Home Town, a husband and wife team that transform homes in Nashville. Last night's show, home buyers bought the house for $32,000 and the decorators put $67,000 in renovations to it to make it a beautiful home.

  10. Can you post some before and after pictures of the nursery?
