Breaking: Romeikes to be Granted 1-Year Delay

The Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) just made a big announcement that affects the Bates greatly. Many of you know that Lydia (Romeike) Bates and her family had recently been told to prepare for deportation back to Germany. As they soak up the newborn days with baby Ryker, Trace and Lydia, as well as the entire Bates family, have been praying for good news.

More than one hundred thousand people signed the petition, and the government has taken notice. According to the HSLDA, on Wednesday, October 11th, ICE is expected to grant the Romeike family a one-year delay of deportation.

    1. This comment is so sad. We haven't heard from the Romeike family since they arrived here yet you say they're whining because they shared this need. What kind of a person are you? Why do you follow this thread if they bother you so?!

    2. It’s their not there.

    3. Of course they will appreciate it hugely! And just so you know, they’ve been doing EVERYTHING within their power in the 15 years they have been there, as per updates from the family, so don’t understand why you are being SO RUDE and telling them to be grateful and get their act together!! 🤷‍♀️😡

  3. Ok; so what will this family DO with that one year? I sincerely hope that they ALL work on being here legally and apply for citizenship. Their homeschooling persecution asylum isn't working for them. They all need to just apply for US citizenship. Why haven't they done that in 15 years? Lydia's father said their reason for homeschooling was that his children were being bullied in school; not religious reasons. Still, a strange situation.

    1. I don’t think they are eligible to apply for citizenship. They’re kind of in no man’s land; they were granted asylum and then it was taken away by the Obama administration. So they were given “indefinitely deferred status.”

    2. They are here legally and because of the nature of their visa, they can’t just apply for citizenship.

Lidia is trying to be able to become a citizen via her marriage to a citizen.

    3. Have you ever been to Germany? Know anything about the society in general? Ever raised kids there? Ever tried to raise a family there? I am sure they have their reasons that don’t depend on your understanding of their lives, home country or what they have endured.

    4. They have been doing EVERYTHING within their power all these 15 years so don’t understand how you think they have been doing it incorrectly 🤷‍♀️ Read or listen to updates and you will hopefully 🤞 understand

    5. Let me get this straight. The children were being bullied in school, so instead of trying to work that out with school staff they MOVED to another country. Wow.

    6. @2:31pm,when my autistic son was bullied at regular school nothing was sorted out because it was not severe bullying as in physically violent, same as the Romeike kids, luckily with persistance I managed to get my son into a special education school and he's been happy there and made friends which he was not able to make in regular school, you really should look at different sides of the story, how would you like to be forced to be friends with people who mistreat you.

    8. Anon 10:44. If they had the "wrong" sort of visa why didn't they figure that out during the past 15 years and do something to correct the issue? I'm not sure an additional year is going to make them figure it out.

    9. Anon 9:03. I HAVE read the updates and that is why I don't understand what is going on with this family. Each update contains a new wrinkle that doesn't match the previous story. This "bullying" one is the latest. Since their German born children are no longer in school, there's no reason for them to stay here.

  5. OK. They asked for and got a delay. Now they need to get busy and do whatever they need to do to become US citizens or they'll be back to where they were before the delay was granted.

    2. Well, of course

    3. Has everyone forgotten the 10 commandments? Love thy neighbor. God loves us all unconditionally and we should love each other
God is the judge of each person, not us
We should stop setting ourselves up to judge others

  6. Gonna continue to pray and spread the word and get people to sign the petition and call Congress.

  7. Applying for US citizenship sounds like a good plan to me. I successfully did in 1977 and have never regretted it. I have enjoyed watching the Bates Family over the years and appreciate their testimony and values. Perhaps the right thing to do is to seek legal domicile in this great country.

  8. This family has a year to resolve their immigration issues. I hope they do so and don't reappear next year kicking up another fuss about being deported.

  9. Great, now all of you who were pulling for them can start pulling for the other families who deserve to stay here too.

  10. I've never heard of Germans -- here legally for 15 years -- being deported. All because of homeschooling asylum??? Bizarre.

    1. I agree. What is so dangerous about Germany for Christians? Nothing. Homeschooling is not a reason for asylum.

      Delete
    2. Perhaps that is because the other people from Germany applied through the proper channels.

    3. @9:14am,it is when you risk going to jail and having your children taken from you,or force them to stay at a school where they get bullied, and changing schools would not have helped because all children saw them as outcasts for being Conservative Christians.

      Delete
    4. It's absolutely possible - as a conservative christian - to go to a public school here in Germany. I did it for thirteen years of my life, all my family, relatives and christian friends did and we all survived perfectly well. "All children saw them as outcasts for being Conservative Christians" regardless what school you go to - I'm sorry, but this is just not true!
It seems to me that the question is whether or not you accept certain given facts. E.g. the laws of the country you live in.

    5. .Anon 8:04. We only have the Romeike's word for what happened in Germany. However, since all their German born children are now adults, none of the issues they complain about exist. Time for them to go home or do whatever they need to do to become US citizens.

  11. Yay! Praise God! I'm so glad the petition helped in some form to help the Romeike family. Hope they take advantage of this next year to try and go through the proper procedure's to ALL become US citizen's at last to stay in America the rest of their lives and never have to face deportation like they did again.

  12. Thank the Lord! Hopefully one year is long enough for the family to work on a permanent status.

    1. Well they have been here for 15 years and couldn't get the job done, I'm not sure if another year will make any difference.

      Delete
    2. They had 15, without doing much, how would they get anything done in one?
Well, maybe the Bates' can get a greencard for Lydia, but more? Only if the people who were so mad to keep them in the states, because they did nothing.
They would have boasted or whined about their efforts a nd failed efforts, but they did not even keep their german passports up to date...
But if someone takes the trouble a d does the work for them, that should be rewarded. Though I don't believe they will do more than offer prayer of thanks. Wichtig should only be the beginnend of a proportional thank you.

  13. I was just praying for them today and I saw this post. Thank you Lord.

  14. So happy to hear this! I’ve been praying for them.

  15. Why don’t they apply for citizenship?

    ReplyDelete
  16. very sorry to hear this actually. extremely disappointed in our government. in all this time they did absolutely nothing to gain citizenship and aren't going to do it now. they don't care about rules and will do what they want, when they want. they left germany because they didn't want to follow the rules and now want the us to look the other way? why? because they are christians? because their daughter married someone from a celebrity family? you read all the time about 'good' people being deported for the same reason - their time ran out. it's time we realized that the us has something called 'separation of church and state' for a reason and this is perfect example of why

  17. They should not leave.

  18. Very hard to wrap your head around the fact that any parent would go to these lengths to avoid sending their children to school. What extremists.

    1. What would you do if your children were bullied at school let it continue,in their case they had no choice, they risked having their children taken from them and jail, they are not the only parents who took their children away from school when the bullying wasn't sorted, only in other countries you are allowed to homeschool that's the difference.

      Delete
    2. Wow, rude. You don't know the details.

      Delete
    3. Not only go to those lengths but also make waves in the new country and not do the things needed to be allowed to stay as citizens, not asylum seekers or visitors. It shows their feelings of entitlement.

      Delete
    4. I have to agree that they're acting extreme. Look at the world events right now. See the people truly suffering. Not wanting your children to be exposed to public school is NOTHING by comparison. People in Ukraine are bravely using makeshift schools. People in Israel have had their schools destroyed. People in Germany have great schools yet no - these people think it's "persecution" if you have to go there, so you leave the country! SMH

    5. 8:07- In Germany, you can choose to send your child to a different school, or even a private religious one. I'm not convinced that this family had grounds for asylum in the US and their claim of religious persecution. Germany's compulsory education law applies to everyone, not just Christians.

      Delete
    6. @8:07 Are my children getting bullied because of something strange that I've made them do? Did I bring this on myself and my children? Then, with the help of the school, I would examine my own behavior and make changes to that before I'd claim persecution and move overseas.

  19. I'm rather uncomfortable with this family's constantly evolving story. Each new version doesn't quite match the previous on. Pity the Bates got caught up in this never-ending saga.

  20. Pray for the Romeike familys need stay America and hope they need us citizens soon .

  21. Yes, Mr. R. clearly stated that they had their children in school in Germany but they were being bullied; hence their leaving Germany for the U.S. Nothing to do with religious beliefs. They wanted to take their kids out of school due to this and homeschool them but they were not allowed to homeschool in Germany. Had nothing to do with their religious "persecution". Mr. R. said nothing about their religious beliefs causing them to leave Germany. So, there's this.

    1. Mr. R making excuses. Bullying is an age old problem in schools, but the rest of us are able to find a solution without packing our family up and moving to another country.

    1. The US government decided they could come in the first place, so you might be wrong.

    2. Anon 9:15. The government didn't "decide" anything. The Romeikes came here on their own and asked for asylum. Homeschooling is not a valid reason for asylum apparently.

    3. 10:46, they received permission to stay. If the government didn't give them permission, then who was it?

  23. ALL I KNOW ABOUT 'THE GREEN CARD' IS FROM THAT MOVE 'GREEN CARD'!!!!! IF A IMMIGRANT MARRIES A AMERICAN, HE/SHE APPLY FOR A 'GREEN CARD', HAS IT BECOME HARDER TO GET THE CARD???? THAT MOVIE WAS DONE, IN 1990s, ???????

  24. If this family is here on a visitor's visa and visitors don't typically have work permits how do they support themselves? I think we need to ask these sorts of questions before jumping on a bandwagon to keep them here.
