Big Plans for the Stewarts' Old Place

You've likely heard that Carlin and Evan Stewart just moved into their new place. They moved out of a rental and into their first purchased home. Their rental is owned by some friends, and it will soon be inhabited by another Bates couple...Trace and Lydia. Now that the Stewarts have vacated, Trace will use his construction skills to do some renovations (link to their video is below). Lydia plans to move in soon and will be joined by Trace after their October 1st wedding.

Trace and Lydia's Future Home

  1. I can't understand why anyone would fix-up a rental. Are the owners of the property paying them to do these upgrades? Chad and Erin did the same thing- (paint, re-did the kitchen, woodwork, etc) I thought they owned their home but no, they were renting as well.

    1. Maybe for a lower rent! Does it really matter?

    2. Yes they are building equity in another’s home or risking a security deposit. The owner should have the place proper for renters and the people renting save the cash to build a down payment for their own place. Paint is one thing cause you can repaint white when you leave but the woodwork and cabinets?

  2. Love that transfer to Nathan & Lydia!

  3. Trace and Lydia kept repeating that the rental place needs a really deep cleaning, as if to say Carlin and Evan lived like slobs. I didn't think that was very nice. Also, Trace said he is going to totally gut the bathroom and do a remodel. I wouldn't do that to a rental!!! What a waste of money! Save that money to remodel something you own. But, maybe the landlord is going to waive a month's rent in exchange for the new bathroom?

    1. I really don't think that they meant any disrespect... Carlin has been very sick and unable to deep clean, I'm sure. I wish they'd come clean my house :) They're a beautiful couple!

    2. I agree that did not come off as rude. Any time I move in to a house I deep clean and change all toilet seats!

    3. I agree. I thought the number of times they talked about needing to deep clean without any explanation was unkind

  4. I don't understand renovating some one else's home for them. It's a rental.

    1. I would hope they would be getting free rent in return.

  5. Why would you renovate a house that you are renting? Sounds like dead money to me.

    1. I see your point. The one thing that came to my mind is maybe the owner is giving them a break on the rent if they fix it up themselves.

    2. I don't get it either. Makes me wonder who owns the house.

    3. Trace isn't stupid. He wouldn't be renovating without some sort of trade-off, like discounted rent.

    4. That is a good question. The owner should have the place up to living standards or they should pick a different place to rent. Use the money to save for their own home.

    5. I think it's strange. My sister owns rental property. She arranges for and pays for any renovations she wants done to her properties. Besides that, why would a landlord allow a tenant todo whatever they wanted to their property?

    6. They want it a little bit bigger livingroom.. I rent and I did updates on my house. I put in new carpet, new kitchen.,new toilet.

And it's not waste of money.
Also Trace is helping the renters fix up the place.

  6. Congratulations to Trace and Lydia on their home!🏡👨👩🏼❤️ It's nice that they get to live in Carlin and Evan's old house. Had thought of them living there or in Erin and Chad's old house when they moved to Florida (whenever that will be). At least Lydia will get the chance to make the place "home" before they marry while Trace works on things. Hope also Lydia gets a bridal shower soon by her family and her in-laws to be so she can get the things she needs to make her's and Trace's home sweet home by the time they marry and return from their honeymoon.

  7. I watched the video and felt like Trace was very disrespectful to his sister by stating the apartment was very dirty several times. I don't believe I will continue watching his vlog.

    1. I agree. It was an odd thing to emphasize and focus on. Carlin has been dealing with serious health issues, as well as a new baby. They've spent a lot of time in and out of hospitals. I doubt they had time to make the house spic and span!

  9. Yeah that's a lovely thing to do

  10. I hope the landlord is paying for this renovation in some way. Maybe the landlord will give Trace and Lydia a discounted rent or something similar. For the landlord's sake, I hope Trace has the proper licensure or certification to do this work.

    1. All contractors should be licensed with their state. It would be an easy thing to check. But I agree, too many "social influencers" online are showing themselves doing renovations, even huge whole-house jobs, when you know they're not licensed. It worries me because you could buy a house that wasn't properly renovated and unless you did a lot of paperwork digging, never know until major problems crop up, even life-threatening ones.

  11. Why was Trace omplaining about his sister's housekeeping? She has been having health problems and had two small children.

    1. He wasn’t complaining. And he never said his sister was not a good housekeeper. He said they wanted to do a deep clean. Makes perfect sense to me. And maybe he is a neat freak And as far as fixing it up we did that when we were newlyweds. Anything we wanted to change the landlord took off our rent. Like someone else said trace ain’t stupid. I’m sure he is getting a bargain.

  12. My impression from watching Evan and Carlin’s vlog is that they did keep a clean house. Every house needs a deep clean after furniture is moved and in this case I think the Stewarts deserve an extra measure of grace. Carlin has a newborn and has been very sick.

We moved once with a newborn and another child having seizures and in the midst of an epilepsy diagnosis. It was incredibly difficult and I feel so much sympathy for Carlin being the sick one in the midst of all moving and adjusting to a newborn.

I noticed that people struggle with understanding seizures...because the person seems okay part of the time it might be hard to believe how sick he or she really is. Seizures are unpredictable, scary, and very disruptive to the entire family. Trying to find a diagnosis and treatment is exhausting, even more so because the doctors are often baffled and most of the drugs are trial and error with side effects. It is like an invisible bully lives with you, waiting to ambush and push you to the ground at random times—and at the same time, the people you look to for help struggle to catch the bully or stop him effectively.

I so hope the Stewarts’ family and friends treat them with compassion and grace, in public and private, during this difficult time.

  13. If you all watch the video closely…the window in the LR is not the same as it was in Carlin & Evans. It’s the apartment next to them!
