Bates Family Sleepover

With only three children under the age of 18, Gil and Kelly Bates have a much quieter home than they did when they had 19 children living under their roof. To help their parents relive their glory days, some of the Bates siblings "crashed" the big house for a surprise sleepover. A handful of the ones who live locally, along with their kids and spouses, showed up on Gil and Kelly's front door for a night of food, board games, a lot of laughter, and only a little bit of sleep. Carlin and Evan Stewart documented the evening and uploaded a video to YouTube

  1. What a nightmare! There are few things I dislike more than unplanned visitors.

    1. I think Kelly Jo and Gil are exactly the opposite. Everybody has different likes/dislikes! It would be hard for me too—except with loved ones. And everyone who went to the sleepover was most definitely a loved one!

    2. Even your own family? How sad. I hope my Kids (all 6 of them) Do this when they have families of their own!

    3. Yes. Especially when it includes a bunch of very young children who will fuss

    4. Did you watch the video? Gil and Kelly were both DELIGHTED with this surprise. Obviously, their children know them well and knew this would be something that they would enjoy!

    5. 😆 I'm with you, but I have to admit it does look like fun when it's at someone else's house. Lol They all seemed to have a great time. 🙂

    6. How else could they be but "delighted" when they saw a camera on and knew it would be posted online?

    8. I am the OP. I am on the autistic spectrum so unexpected changes in plans and being around people for prolonged periods of time is very rough on me. That’s why I’d hate having all these people in my house overnight even they are family. I have a very demanding work schedule and my home is my sanctuary. After being in the office all day, I just want to decompress alone.

  2. I Love This! ♥️

I am hoping that somebody can give me the link to the song and little skit that was being played and sang to while Carlin was in labor.

  3. When you throw a large party, surprise your parents by having it at THEIR house. LOL

  5. I am sure the Bates BIG house is quiet now and it was a wonderful time of laughs, fun, even baby crying for Gil, Kelly Jo and all the grandchildren families together. Kelly Jo loves every minute she has with her family and the growing amount of grandchildren. They both NEVER misses the birth of a new grandbaby!! They are always traveling to visit their children and grandchildren who live in another state than Tennessee too!! They will definitely NEVER be empty nest grandparents!!

  6. We will never know what Gil and Kelly really thought about this activity, but they handled it well by being gracious to their uninvited guests.

    1. Do you think they were lying? Kelly Jo literally said this was the best thing!

    2. Why not? Nobody is perfect

    3. @5:57 I think it's fair to say that we've all been in situations where we were unhappy with it, but feigned the opposite because we didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings. We cannot read her mind and she may have genuinely been thrilled with the surprise, but I seriously doubt Kelly would have said anything negative in front of her kids and grandkids, or for the cameras filming the occasion.
