Travis Clark has a big announcement to make. He went back to school late last year and is studying to become a registered nurse. The decision for him to start an accelerated nursing program was not one that he and Katie made quickly, but it is something that they are both very excited about. Katie considered joining him but ultimately chose to focus on motherhood. The Clarks made a YouTube video to share the news, discuss how it is going, and talk about how it has impacted their life.
I had to laugh at Travis saying the milkshake tasted like sunscreen! I would probably have thought so, too, as I’m not a fan of coconut, either, haha! Good for him entering nursing school, and good for Katie for deciding to stay home with her kids! It’s a decision she will never regret. Wishing them all the best, and prayers going up for them as they traverse (no pun intended😂) this new phase of life!
ReplyDeleteIt seems a good option. The music career isn't going anywhere so he's going this route.
ReplyDeleteWow. They moved to Tennesee so he could pursue his music career and now he' going to be a nursde. I wonder what happened?
ReplyDelete@ 3:15 Reality has a way of happening sooner or later.
DeleteWe admire any male that goes into nursing school! It's tough studies but very much needed nurses today. Only thing most nurses start out on 2 or 3rd shifts and long 12 hr shifts! That going to be hard on Katie and their children. Pray all work out for you both in future!!
ReplyDeleteI wish Katie had joined him! I thought she wanted to be a nurse when she was younger.
ReplyDeleteI concur wholeheartedly! She has a daughter who’s watching her. It would’ve been nice for her to go to school, work in that field and still be a mother. With the lifestyle she likes to live and the amount of money she likes to spend, while Travis said he’s more frugal, she could’ve pursued this alongside her husband so that all the pressure isn’t solely on her husband. Even he said he’s wished Katie chose to do it, smh!
Delete6:33,and still be a mother? Have you never heard what kind of hours nurses work? Your more of a visitor with your kids than a parent sometimes, depending on where you work. I don't tell women whether or not they should work because it isn't any of my business but if a woman or man decides to stay home to raise their children I certainly wouldn't knock them for it because it doesn't suit my personal ideals. Each to his own.
DeleteGood for him to actually get a REAL job & career. Seems like some of these Bates kids just want to do youtube videos to make money. Everyone should be able to keep a real job not just be on youtube.
ReplyDeleteThey make LOTS of money on YouTube. Fame and Fortune are hard to turn away from.
DeleteI think their social media takes a good bit of time filming and editing. I love watching them.
Delete@3:48 I believe Jesus gave a warning or two about that. Maybe these kids haven't gotten to those parts of the Bible yet.
DeleteWhat about his singing career. He is a great singer
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful decision. My best nurses have been male. I hope he follows through and actually works.
ReplyDeleteHmmm. Don’t see this lasting long term. Nursing is a very demanding field. Rewarding, but challenging with 12 hour shifts. These couples are glued at the hip.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right. Different lifestyle for sure. They are very dependent on each other . Maybe this will help Katie to grow up some.
Delete"They need to get real jobs"...."I don't see this lasting."....The Bates family just can't win.
DeleteI think it is fantastic that Travis is going to nursing school. I know Katey was thinking about it but has decided to stick to motherhood. However, Katey has her cosmetology license and could make money on the side with this knowledge.
ReplyDeleteApparently they woke up one morning and decided that they wanted to be nurses. We'll see where this goes.
ReplyDeleteWishing Travis the best!!! Praying this transition well go smooth for the whole family.
ReplyDeleteGuess music didn't work out. Glad he will have a future to support his Katie and kids. Depends what field he chooses goes without saying w/e and holidays he will work . U get used to it. But can Katie handle it?
ReplyDeleteInteresting
ReplyDeleteI respect Travis for pursuing a career where he can support his family. As a retired nurse though I will say that the 12 hour shifts can be physically and mentally exhausting. Not to mention that the 12 hour shifts frequently turned into 16 hour shifts due to mandating when we were short staffed. Plus weekends and holidays. I hope Katie keeps that in mind if she pursues nursing. Plus you need to get good grades in prerequisite classes such as chemistry and anatomy and physiology. It’s a lot of study hours. Best of luck

ReplyDeleteyou cannot do clincals online. what school does attndent should have done that before marriage
ReplyDeleteStarted school late last year? This has to be a few short months after their move to Tennessee for the (pie in the sky) singing career. Nursing school is incredibly demanding as are the jobs afterwards. They live an unconventional life with an incredible amount of free time. Cannot see them fitting into a structured routine.
ReplyDeleteThey explained it well on the vlog. He wants to make sure he has a job because he and Katie do not expect their social media jobs to last forever. Katie is still interested in nursing in the future, but currently wants to focus on motherhood. It is very common for people to try different jobs and careers until they find what is best for them. There is no shame in that. Social media to make money is work, music is work, nursing is work. It is incredibly encouraging to see young people working hard to support their families. This is what we want in our culture. We also want people to raise the next generation well—children are our future. So kudos to Travis and Katie for continuing to be positive, responsible members of society.
ReplyDeleteIt would’ve been nice if Katie also pursued a degree in Nursing. Setting an example as a woman and a mom to her daughter that she too can juggle being a mother and having a solid career would’ve been great!
ReplyDeleteMaybe when her kids aren't so little! They can also benefit from having a full-time mom in their formative years.
DeleteNursing school while taking care of two small children seems like bad timing. Why can't she enjoy focusing on her kids while they're small? The time goes by so fast.
DeleteYou do realize she is currently a working mom? She is just working in a newer way that is currently available, in social media. It is not any less valid than being an actor or a newscaster—it just happens to be a work-from-home entrepreneurial job.
Delete@11:07 Actors and newscasters have unions, have contracts, have 401K plans, have insurance plans through their employer. Actors have agents, promoters, staff. Both professions have years of training and education. Both are part of a highly organized system. Turning on your phone at home and shakily filming your family in hopes that someone will watch later can't even begin to compare!
DeleteThis is why parents should encourage their children to go to college right after high school, not run off and get married and have kids. By the time you're ready to do that, you should have the education and the job already in place, or at least something to fall back on. You shouldn't have to start from scratch when you're already married and a parent. The Bates and the Duggars only make it harder for their kids by keeping them out of a decent education when they're young.
ReplyDeleteWell, Katie did go to cosmotology school before she got married. She DID get training for a career.
DeleteHeads up @7:08, the Bates kids all had the choice to go to college or not and many did and are. Addalee mentioned she's doing college. Isaiah too. (but don't be hung up on college. the younger generations are shifting towards trade schools, apprenticeships etc. Traditional college is becoming passe.) Katie has a cosmetology license she can fall back on if absolutely necessary. And this is TRAVIS we're talking about here. he's NOT a Bates or Duggar child so this comment can not apply to this post. The Bates kids did get a decent education. Life happens to different people on different time schedules. Some people meet "the one" sooner then others. With the Bates, its more often sooner then later.
DeleteYes, we all know the kind of "college" these kids are allowed to attend. Definitely not a state-run liberal-arts college where they'd get any kind of actual academic degree. Even if they were an in-law, that would be frowned upon.
DeleteThe Bates kids do go to college. The Duggar kids are much more limited.
DeleteThis is awesome news, he'll make a great Nurse and this doesn't mean he's giving up his music. Being a mom is a full time job so Katie made the best decision for her and her family! She can still pursue Nursing at a later time! This ia a wonderful young family with many more glorious adventures in front of them! Love you guys and your kids!
ReplyDeleteYou mean you can't just drift through life trying to use fame, trying to make music, and not having any work commitments, after you've taken on a spouse and a kid or three? Wow, who knew life was like that.
ReplyDeleteVery well said . I agree with you.
DeleteIt was probably a smart idea to hold off being in school at the same time. She can go later too.
ReplyDeleteHope he can cut it being a nurse. Can't see him working in a hospital 12 hour shift every other w/e holidays etc. Never appeared to have a schedule. Also lack of sleep . Maybe do homecare but get real EXPERIENCE 1st try all fields the decide.
