Skating with the Keilens

The Chicago area has been covered in a thick blanket of snow this week, with more falling this weekend. Michael and Brandon Keilen took advantage of the beautiful winter wonderland with an evening of outdoor ice skating. Do you enjoy skating? Have you been watching the Olympics?

Michael Down the Aisle

Another Great Bates Moment coming your way! On Tuesday, we shared a clip from Chad Paine's proposal to Erin Bates. The video below was taken just before Micheal Bates walked down the aisle to sweetheart Brandon Keilen. We just love the raw emotion and pure joy written on Michael's face.

Michaela Shares Infertility Struggles

Last season on Bringing Up Bates, Michael (Bates) Keilen and Brandon Keilen opened up about their struggles with infertility. Just yesterday, Michael shared that her inability to conceive has taken a toll. The Keilens will celebrate their two-year anniversary in August.

Michael has been smitten with Brandon from day one, telling him when he proposed that she had wanted to marry him from the moment they first met. The couple is very happy together as young marrieds, and they are beyond grateful to God for bringing them together, but Michael admits that she still has a deep desire to be a mother.

The oldest daughter of Gil and Kelly Bates, Michael has possessed a love for children from a young age.

“Everyone in the family has always predicted and said Michael is going to be the one that has a really, super large family," Kelly tells viewers during the recent "Doggy Dilemmas" episode. "She loves children. She rejoices when another person is pregnant as much as we do, but at the same time…there’s got to be that feeling of, ‘I wish I could be pregnant and join them.’”

After marrying Brandon in August 2015 and graduating from Roane State Community College the following spring, Michael began to wonder why she hadn't yet gotten pregnant. She had tests done, and the doctors told her not to give the subject any more thought until she had been married a year.

Following the Keilens' one-year anniversary, they visited a specialist, who ran further tests but was still unable to find a solution.

"Night after night, I cried myself to sleep and felt like all my dreams and desires were shattered," Michael writes on her website. "Each night, Brandon held me close and let me cry until I had no more tears. He prayed with me and assured me that God had a plan and knew what He was doing. Yet, I had become so focused on the one thing I didn’t have that I was doubting God and His goodness."

On one particular night, when Michael's heartache was very great, Brandon shared words of encouragement that spoke to the deepest parts of her heart.

"Brandon encouraged me to be honest with God and ask for His grace to trust again," Michael writes. "As I began asking God to help me see Him again and to give me grace to trust, He started changing my heart. As I searched for verses and meditated on who God is, my perspective changed. Not only has God shown me His hand of provision on the medical side of this walk (finding doctors, searching for answers, providing finances), He also has allowed me to see how this time has knit our hearts together as a couple. Even greater still, God has allowed me to see a glimpse of Him. The fellowship I’ve had with my Heavenly Father is unlike anything I dreamed possible. He truly has become my everything, and I’m learning that no matter what situation or circumstance life throws at me, Jesus Christ is the only one that can fully satisfy."

Michael admits that she still struggles and that her tears flow often, but in the midst of the pain, she has a peace that surpasses all understanding, knowing that God can be trusted no matter what.

Keilens in D.C.

Just one month short of two years ago, Brandon Keilen proposed to Michael Bates in Great Falls, Virginia, following a perfectly planned scavenger hunt through Washington D.C. The iconic D.C. cherry blossoms were in full bloom, which made a beautiful backdrop for photos.

This weekend, Brandon surprised Michael with a surprise trip to the East Coast to relive their engagement moments. They visited the cherry blossoms, which started blooming just in time for their arrival.

They also stopped by the exact spot where Brandon proposed in April 2015.

Brandon's Hidden Talent

Over the next several days, our opportunities to blog will be limited, but we still have plenty of entertaining Bates content to share with y'all while we're away from the computer.

We went through dozens of video clips from the past four seasons of Bringing Up Bates and chose our favorites (some that aired on the show and some that are bloopers/deleted scenes). For many of you, this will probably be your first time seeing them.

The first clip is in honor of upcoming American Thanksgiving. During Thanksgiving 2014, Brandon Keilen, Michael Bates' then-boyfriend, shares his hidden talent with the Bates family.

Bates Go Mudding

"The boys were definitely trying to see who could do the most dangerous things and not kill themselves. Nathan was the worst, of course."

-Tori Bates

This week on Bringing Up Bates, the family gets down and dirty on a mud-covered four-wheeling trail. The younger children are thrilled to be able to join the action on their kid-sized ATVs, and the older ones enjoy doing crazy stunts (well, at least the boys do).

Scroll down to see snapshots and an extended scene.

The show starts at 9pm ET/8pm CT tomorrow on UP. In addition to their mudding adventure, the Bates also receive a visit from sister Michael Keilen and her husband, Brandon Keilen. (Click here to watch the Keilens meet Kaci Lynn Bates for the first time.)

Celebrating Judson and Brandon

Today is the last Bates double birthday of 2016. (It's hard to believe that they have four every year!) Happy 6th birthday to Judson Wyatt Bates, and happy 27th birthday to Brandon Timothy Keilen!

Did you know that Brandon has a four-year ministry degree, which he completed in November 2014? And here's an interesting fact about Judson: He was named after Judson Van Deventer, the writer of the hymn "I Surrender All."

Alyssa and Michael: Watching Our Family on TV

"Sometimes they'll do stuff on the show, and I'm like, 'I didn't know they went there or they did that!'" admits Alyssa Webster in the video below.

Alyssa Webster--who lives in Clermont, Florida, with husband John Webster and daughter Allie Jane Webster--and Michaella Keilen--who lives near Chicago, Illinois, with husband Brandon Keilen--say that watching Bringing Up Bates helps them keep up with their parents and siblings.

Over the weekend, Gil and Kelly Bates and their 19 children, four in-laws, and three (soon to be four) grandkids gathered in Tennessee to celebrate Valentine's Day.

February 14th is a special holiday for the Bates family. Newlyweds Michaela and Brandon Keilen traveled all the way from Chicago, Illinois, while the Websters--John, Alyssa, and Allie-Jane--made the trek to The Volunteer State from their home near Orlando, Florida.

Interview with Michaela (Bates) Keilen

After her wedding episode aired on UP last Thursday, Michaela (Bates) Keilen chatted with Noelle from PopCityLife.com about the day she tied the knot with Brandon and her new life as Mrs. Keilen.

Here are the highlights of the interview, but we encourage you to visit PopCityLife.com for more details.
  • Michaela says that her first kiss, which she shared with Brandon at the altar, was better than she ever could have imagined. "Waiting was definitely hard, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything," shares the newlywed. "My dreams all came true that blissful moment."
  • Michaela is "completely overwhelmed by the love and kindness" shown to her and Brandon by the approximately 800 guests who attended their wedding.
  • While Brandon, a videographer/graphic designer for a ministry in Chicago, is away at work, Michaela spends her days studying and doing childcare. "I’m finishing up my last semester of college, while adjusting to the big city and the cold winters," she tells PopCityLife.com.
  • Are there children in the Keilens' future? The newlyweds hope to have a large family, but they have not made any announcements yet. Right now, Michael says she is "embracing this thrilling adventure of marriage that God has so graciously given me."
