Bates in Puerto Rico

In early September, they helped rescue more than 100 residents from the flood waters left by Hurricane Harvey using a small boat. Now, Lawson Bates and Nathan Bates have just landed in Puerto Rico (flown in by Nathan) and are ready to lend a hand.

Two weeks after Hurricane Maria's direct hit on the U.S. territory, most of the island is still without water and power. Please pray for Lawson and Nathan and the impact they will have, as well as those suffering from this terrible tragedy.

Below is a video filmed by Lawson as he and Nathan prepared to land.

  1. I truly hope Lawson and Nathan find wives who are willing to help like this instead of just Baby after baby. These two men are certainly rising to the top within these large reality tv families. They seem to have a desire to honestly help and bring relief to those devastated by these disasters regardless of their Christian denomination.

    1. Yes. I really appreciate the perspective you have presented. I love children and hope to get married and have at least 4 children myself one day, Lord willing. But God has been teaching me that getting married and having children shouldn't be our supreme life goal. Our life focus should be serving Him and representing His character to the world so that others can learn of Him too. If marriage and children are part of this goal, what a blessing they are! But we shouldn't look at it as our only purpose in this life.

  2. Nathan and Lawson have become my favorites of ALL the men within these tv shows. They demonstrate the most maturity, compassion, willingness to use their financial resources for good, etc. I hope they continue to grow in their maturity and expanding their world views to way beyond their upbringing.

    2. So agree! It's been so great watching Nathan the past few years. I remember cringing when he went to NYC when dating Ashley( there is still hope for them!) and he was so immature about "the city". Now he's off helping in gracious ways those affected by hurricanes, using his EMT skills in the Philippines, flying into Puerto Rico etc. He and Lawson( who always seemed to be more open to others) are examples of using the wealth they've been given to become educated and give back and expand their worldview beyond ATI/ Big Sandy/Duggar's and Tennessee. It's lovely, and quite honestly much more interesting than the "courtship, marry, baby, baby, baby" routine.

  9. I live in Puerto Rico! It's so awesome to see how they're here to help. A lot of us are still without electricity, it's been 2 weeks for me, and I'm fortunate that not much had happened where I live, but there is still so much devastation in many other areas of the island, especially the rural area and the mountains. We're taking it one day at a time slowly rebuilding the island.

    4. How are you getting electricity to your phone/laptop if you've been without power for 2 weeks ? Serious question.

    5. Anonymous 7:10 My neighbor has a generator and was able to connect to his Wi-Fi. Plus, they're working hard with restoring the electricity, the same with mobile networks. Only a couple of municipalities and cities make up the 9-10% of the electricity that has been restored including hospitals and our main airport. Everything like supermarkets and gas stations are working with generators and I've waited long queues for gas and going to the supermarket, I'm just glad that it is slowly getting back to normal, except traffic which has become a nightmare.

    6. If they have a car that wasn't damaged, a car charger would work.

    7. That is my first thought. My sister-in-law is still unable to have any contact with her sister and other relatives on the island and this person has internet access??? Something doesn't add up!

    8. Anonymous 9:16, I live in the metro area which and some areas are getting electricity back. My family and I spent days without communication and without internet access. My neighbor has a generator which has made it possible for me to connect to the WiFi. It all depends on the area.

  11. I just wanted to reach out and give a big thanks to Nathan and Lawson. I grew up in Florida, lived in Puerto Rico for four years; moving back to Florida just a few months ago. The devastation in Puerto Rico is that of a third world country and unrecognizable. I have so many friends that I didn't and still don't have contact with. I yearn for the ability to help a place that I love, but unfortunately I can physically be there side by side with the Puerto Rican people rebuilding at the moment due to other commitments. So thank you for be there, being present, and giving you time and resources to help those around you in this trying time. I know you don't do this to be recognized for it, but I hope you understand how appreciated your help is.
