Bobby Smith discusses engagement with Gil Bates

It's a family affair, as the Bates family, along with Tori's Boyfriend (Bobby) and Carlin's suitor (Evan) continue their thrill seeking vacation at Adventures on the Gorge in West Virginia! Rain or shine, the Bates brave a high level whitewater rafting course. It's sink, swim, or scream as the family navigates some intense rapids. And later, Gil is in for a big surprise when Bobby pulls him aside and asks him for permission to pop the question to Tori.

  1. I am guessing Tori is now engaged! May be they will have a December wedding?

  3. That means Tori is definitely already engaged and Carlin is definitely already courting if they're announcing this on the blog.

  4. I'm about this "trend" of asking the father's permission to propose. Is this a common thing now? When my husband and I got engaged, he asked me and then we told our parents together. I know in days when the daughter was considered property and the father "gave" her away this was common. But in the 21st century it seems a bit odd, especially when everyone appears to already know they are planning an engagement.

    1. I think it's more of a perfunctory gesture. Gil and Kelley likely give opinions about potential mates for their children long before it gets to the proposal stage.

    2. I see it as more of a respect issue than a "property" issue.

  5. I meant to say I'm curious about the trend. People I grew up with did not do this

  6. Aside from courtship and engagement, it is good to see the ladies wearing pants for the activities. . . .I do not think GOD will give them a failing grade.

    Good wishes to everyone

    2. Which is still modest but super cute!

  7. Is Carlin serious about that relationship? I think she was too impatient and jumped right on the train with the first boy who showed interest. I think that might be why Gil is like let's hold on a bit longer there buddy.
