Bates Cookbook?

"I don't know that I would be qualified for a cookbook, unless it was like, meals for 40 people in less than 20 minutes."
-Kelly Bates

Many of our readers have asked if the Bates have ever considered writing a cook book. They have thought about it, but Kelly has come to the conclusion that she isn't qualified. Hear her reasoning in the video clip below.

  1. Just the sweetest people. I wish we were neighbors, so y'all could help influence our kids. Absolutely love Gil and Kelly and their precious family. Bringing Up Bates is the BEST show on tv.
Thank you for your example, and God bless each one of you.

  2. Well, she should compile recipes and someone should adjust them to accommodate a family of 6-12 people! Generally when people cook meals they're cooking for more than just their family anyway....you should actually do a "Duggar 'n Bates Cookbook"

  4. Feed 40 for under 20 minutes! I would buy it! I think Erin authoring a specialty cookbook with bible verses sounds like a wonderful idea!

  7. I appreciate Kelly's honesty in admitting that she combines ingredients FAST and 'throws it together' for the crowd. How is it, though, that seemingly none of these first generation mothers of this belief system, have ever learned HOW to really cook for their families? Isn't that traditionally one of the most important duties of the mother/wife of the house should know how to do?

    1. I'm guessing Kelly (and probably Michelle) were in "survival mode" for many of the early years with so many little children. They probably picked the easiest things to make (frozen foods, canned foods, etc.), and let nutrition slide. Kelly has also stated that she didn't grow up on nutritious foods. It would be great if they acknowledged the importance of feeding those growing bodies healthy food. I hope they start doing it!

  9. I'd like to see a cookbook like that. It also cracks me up how she clings to Gil.

  10. Ha, I wish I knew how to feed my family of 4 in 20 minutes! I don't know how the Bates do it with 40 people!

  11. I just love Kelly and Gil. This clip of them is as down to earth as can be. I'd appreciate if Kelly actually did create a small cookbook of her 7 recipes that can be thrown together for a crowd. I'm always challenged on what to make easily and fast when I have a group for supper!!! How about 7 Simple Suppers as the title? :)

  12. I enjoyed your family from when when I first met the family on 19 & counting I live in West Tennessee when your family first appeared on 19& counting they introduced the kids I was like each one was just as good looking as the one before I always thought that one or so of the duggar children and yours would be in a courtship & married being that both family has the same family value each kids knew each other from the years maybe there's still more of each family that are still young will Gil & Kelly be having baby 20?
